Shopping (& Cooking) BabySize: 27 Weeks

by Kate on December 13th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Life, Shopping BabySize

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

I am 27 weeks along (how did that happen?!) and the baby weighs approximately 14 and a half inches long and weighs almost 2 pounds – about the same as a head of cauliflower. This seems startling to me because over the weekend I held a friend’s preemie twin baby boy who weighs a mere 3 and a half pounds. He was tiny, but at the same time it’s impossible to imagine a baby of that size in my stomach.

So, perhaps this week “Cooking BabySize” is a better title for this post. There is not much out there celebrating or made with cauliflowers for babies and kids. I guess they’re just not a cute vegetable. Other than the obligatory knit vegetable hat:

Cauliflower Recipes

I happen to love cauliflower so all of these recipes look amazeballs to me and my pregnant belly.

Deep Fried Cauliflower. MUST EAT NOW. I don’t have a deep fryer, but my hometown where we will be over Christmas has a hole in the wall restaurant that has the best fried cauliflower. I want to go to there.

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

According to BabyCenter, the baby now weighs approximately one and two thirds pounds and is about 14 inches in length from head to heel. Apparently that makes it nearly the length of an English Hothead Cucumber. Speaking of BabyCenter, make sure you check out my recent posts on the Momformation Blog. I ask, “Did my husband really just say that?” and look for advice on preparing siblings for a new baby.

There are plenty of baby and children’s products involving cucumber – but the vast majority of them are skincare of some sort. So, here’s a fun mixture of cucumber finds for families.

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

At 25 weeks along, the baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches, and at a pound and a half weighs about the same as an average rutabaga. Here’s the graphic from BabyCenter showing what the baby sort of looks like in there. I’m just hoping my baby is actually head down – or will be turning that way. I’ve been so paranoid about the baby being breech since the ultrasound.

This whole project is fun until weeks like this… Rutabaga! The only thing I know about rutabagas is that my college roommate used to say people who were rude were “rutabagas.” But, I did find a few things!

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of my wee babe in the belly.

According to BabyCenter, the little one weighs just over a pound and is almost a foot long. Or, about the length of an ear of corn.

Things have been hectic and crazy and I missed a week (or two) of Shopping BabySize posts. I’m taking the easy way out this week and pointing you directly to the Corn Pinterest Board rather than sharing my ear of corn and maize finds here. But, they’re cute! So go check them out. And a Board without a post is better than nothing, right?

24 Week Belly Photos

This thing I like to call my belly is getting enormous. And, I swear no matter how many times I tell her, my mom is still NOT convinced there’s only one baby in there. Can’t say that I blame her… it’s getting big!

To compare and see just how big it’s grown, here are my 20 week belly photos, 16 week belly photos and a 12 week belly photo.

In theory Shopping BabySize is my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of my wee babe in the belly. But this week? The baby is approximately the length of a Spaghetti Squash (11 inches and about 1 pound).

Not surprisingly there really isn’t much out there for babies featuring a spaghetti squash. Or any squash for that matter. So this week is a little different and very recipe heavy. Which begs the question: do you like spaghetti squash? I think I’ve had it once, years ago, but these recipes actually make me want to try it again.

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of my wee babe in the belly.

At 21 weeks along, the baby is weighs about 12 ounces (though our ultrasound estimated it weighed more than that last week) and is approximately 10.5 inches long from head to toe, or about the size of a carrot.

Here’s a funny little graphic from BabyCenter showing what the baby looks like. And, while we’re on the subject of BabyCenter, thanks for following my posts on the site’s Momformation Blog. Last week I blogged about making the muumuu acceptable maternity fashion and dressing the baby bump for Halloween. I so appreciate all your support, comments, tweets and shares of those posts!

Shopping BabySize: Week 20

by Kate on October 26th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Shopping, Shopping BabySize

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of my wee babe in the belly.

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and the average baby at this point weighs 10.5 ounces and is 10 inches from head to heel, or about the same size as a banana. At the ultrasound yesterday, my little thing was measuring 14 ounces – a little fatty! (And, yes, I totally know that an ultrasound isn’t 100% accurate. The day my son was born he was estimated to weigh only 5 pounds, 4 ounces. Hours later I delivered a 6 pound, 9 ounce baby.) However, when you look at this belly, it’s not hard to imagine the baby in my stomach is a chunk!

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of my wee babe in the belly. I’m 19 weeks pregnant so the the baby weighs about 8.5 ounces and is 6 inches from crown to rump, or about the same size as a heirloom tomato.

Here’s a rather freaky little image from BabyCenter, where I am now blogging this pregnancy! Check out my posts from the past week and join the conversation: Should children attend the ultrasound? and When did your morning sickness end? Big thanks to those of you who have joined me on the Momformation Blog to comment and say hi. I really appreciate it!

Tomato Finds

Okay so the baby is approximately an HEIRLOOM tomato, but turns out retailers aren’t so specific in the naming of tomato-inspired products. I was surprised by how many cute finds I discovered. Enjoy.
