Shopping BabySize: Week 36

by Kate on February 19th, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Shopping, Shopping BabySize

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly. Or, not so wee as the case may be.

The baby is now gaining about an ounce a day and weighs almost 6 pounds – or the size of a crenshaw melon – and is about 18.5 inches long. This whole Shopping BabySize experiment has really been a lesson in produce, because I had no idea what a crenshaw melon was. But I am learning about all kinds of melons since they’re easy to compare to baby’s size, apparently. It’s really fun to imagine how bit the baby actually is! Both of my kids were born around 38 pounds and my son weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces and my daughter was 6 pounds 12 ounces. Given the fact that I weigh at least 5 pounds more than I did when I gave birth to my other kids, I’m assuming the means the baby in my stomach actually weighs more like 11 pounds. Clearly the only explanation for this extra weight is an extra big baby. Right? Right.

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

Baby is getting big and is now approximately more than 18 inches long and weighs about 5 1/4 pounds – similar to a honeydew melon. There’s a whole lot of melon going on! Last week, baby was about the size of a cantaloupe, this week a honeydew and next week a crenshaw melon.

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

This week baby weighs approximately 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. It blows my mind that the baby is now, like, nearly real newborn baby size. Crazy. In any case, enjoy this week’s cantaloupe and melon finds and read on to see some belly photos!

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

The baby is getting big! This week it is approximately 16 inches long and weighs about 3.3 pounds – the same as 4 navel oranges. I love this week because while there are not a lot of “navel orange” specific products there are a lot of generic orange goodies. And, let’s be honest orange is a fabulous color! Such a fun, bright AND gender neutral color. It’s a great unisex alternative to yellow, really.

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

I’m now 29 weeks pregnant, which means the little mover and shaker is 15 inches long from head to heel and weighs about 2.5 pounds – like a Butternut Squash. Remember almost two months ago when the baby was the size of a Spaghetti Squash? My how it’s grown in the squash family!

Butternut Squash Recipes

Even though cooking is so totally not my thing, I’ve had fun adding some recipes into the weekly finds post so this week is no different. And, as a bonus, it includes a recipe I’ve actually made. Go me. This Roasted and Curried Butternut Squash Soup is so freaking delicious. And I feel tremendously fancy and talented when I make it. (Except the time the yogurt kind of curdled when I added it. That wasn’t cool.)

Shopping BabySize {28 Weeks}

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

At 28 weeks pregnant, the baby in my belly measures nearly 15 inches from head to heel and weighs about 2 and a quarter pounds – about the weight of a chinese cabbage. This challenge really isn’t getting any easier! But, unlike last week’s cauliflower, there are actually some fun kid cabbage finds. Many of them involve the cabbage rose, but beggars can’t be choosers, you know? For good (tasting) measure, I’ve thrown in a couple recipes, too.

Shopping (& Cooking) BabySize: 27 Weeks

by Kate on December 13th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Life, Shopping BabySize

Shopping BabySize: my favorite finds for babies, kids and moms based on the approximate size of the wee babe in my belly.

I am 27 weeks along (how did that happen?!) and the baby weighs approximately 14 and a half inches long and weighs almost 2 pounds – about the same as a head of cauliflower. This seems startling to me because over the weekend I held a friend’s preemie twin baby boy who weighs a mere 3 and a half pounds. He was tiny, but at the same time it’s impossible to imagine a baby of that size in my stomach.

So, perhaps this week “Cooking BabySize” is a better title for this post. There is not much out there celebrating or made with cauliflowers for babies and kids. I guess they’re just not a cute vegetable. Other than the obligatory knit vegetable hat:
