GapKids Launches Cabana Collection

by Kate on May 8th, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Shopping

Gap recently launched the Cabana collection for GapKids! Inspired by the warmth and energetic colors of Tulum, Mexico, the Cabana collection encourages little girls and boys to be true to who they are through the expression of color. The bright new styles for Summer include striped dresses, embroidered rompers and denim vests for her and plaid shorts, garment-dye shirts and graphic T’s for him.

GapKids Cabana Collection

Here are some of our favorite pieces that will bring color and joy to little wardrobes this summer.

Children’s Cabana Cha Cha

To celebrate the spirit of the collection Gap partnered with Debbie Allen, an award-winning actress, dancer, choreographer, director and producer, to create an energetic dance called the “Cabana Cha Cha.” The children are dressed in clothes from the Cabana collection and they are as cute (and talented) as can be. Make sure you watch and share the video because Gap will donate $1 to the Debbie Allen Dance Academy for every time the video is shared via Facebook or Twitter!

Shop! The Cabana Collection is available at Gap stores and online at Gap.com - check out the boys collection and the girls collection. Prices in the collection range from $14.95 – $39.95.

Affordable Christmas Outfits for Baby Boys

by Kate on November 12th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Shopping

We got a great email from a reader who brought up a common problem: finding a cute, boutique-look outfit that is also affordable for a boy for the holidays. Sure, it’s easy to find something darling, but who wants to spend $100 on an outfit a kid will wear once? Not us! And, as cute as boy clothes are sometimes the selection just isn’t the same as it is for girls which adds to the challenge. So we’re hoping to help you mom of baby boys. We’ve rounded up some cute outfits for less than $40.

I die from the cuteness that is this Shirt with applique Christmas Stripes Tie and Suspenders. Pair this with cords from your tot’s drawer or jeans for a less formal occasion and you’ve got a one of a kind holiday outfit sure to please. At least it pleases me so please buy this shirt and send me pictures of your kid so I can giggle. Toddler Shirt is $24, Onesie is $20 from BK Chic Boutique.

Mud Pie has a lot of boutique-look outfits without the steep boutique price. The look is traditional holiday and you’ll get the cute pictures you’re looking for without spending a bundle. The 3 piece Reindeer Set is great for Baby’s First Christmas and includes a shirt, pants and socks. Only available size 0 -6 Months, $24.99.

The Santa Longalls are just as cute as can be. I mean, really stinking cute! The red gingham fabric is accented with a handmade plush faux patent leather Santa. Ha. Again, this is just for babies in size 0 – 6 Months, for $31.

The Embroidered Tree Overalls are available in size 0 – 6 Months through 3T for $36. For $10 extra you can have them personalized with your tot’s initials. The overalls are traditional red corduroy with green embroidered trees.

Crazy 8 offers a little less formal take on the holidays with the adorable Gingerbread Boy outfit. The Onesie and Stripe Knit Pants are 12.95 each, available in size 0 – 6 Months through 18 – 24 Months. (Use codeC8BUDDY to save 25% off your entire order through November 13.)

And for another faux-tie look, we really dig the Merry Little Gent collection. The Tie V-Neck Sweater is $16.99, the Oxford Shirt is $11.99 and the oh-so-unnecessary-but-irresistable Herringbone Cap is $7.99. The collection is available in sizes 3 – 6 Months through 5. (Use codeC8BUDDY to save 25% off your entire order through November 13.)

Hope this has helped a little bit, Molly. Happy shopping!

Finn + Emma: Sweet and Modern Styles for Baby

by Laura on October 26th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Clothes, Reviews

I am a sucker for baby clothes that are modern and colorful.  Nothing turns me off more than butterfly collars and dull pastels.  Finn + Emma makes sturdy items in contemporary prints that utilize muted colors with a punch of bright tones.  And they are organic.  What’s not to love?!

Meet Finn + Emma

“Welcome to the land of Finn + Emma, where we live in the balance of stylish and sustainable, whimsical and sophisticated, classic and contemporary. With fresh prints, modern colors, and heirloom quality construction, we are creating a new world for the organically grown baby.  One where boring designs and toxic chemicals are a thing of the past, and adorable, wearable, remarkable organic cotton is abundant!

Sustainability is bountiful too. You grew your little one organically, so why add chemicals now? Only the finest 100% organic cotton, eco friendly dyes, and all natural wood will do for your little munchkin, and we’ve got plenty. And on top of that, our garments and accessories are produced in fair trade settings that focus on social and economic independence for local people, women especially, working to provide for their families in a safe and fair environment.”

Scooter Prints for Scootin’ Babies

The first thing I noticed about the Footed Pant and Kimono Top was the quality of the material and the construction.  Double stitching, strong seams, and quality snaps mean that these items will outlast any abuse that Charlie can heap on the outfit and at least one round of hand-me-downs if not more.  I have washed this outfit at least half a dozen times and haven’t seen any fading or wear, like we do with clothes from some of the bigger shops.  The organic cotton was super soft even before the first washing and the print – oh, the print!  It’s simply adorable.  Scooters in blue, orange, and my favorite color – gray- adorn both pieces.  The greatest detail is the large orange scooter that is stitched to the bottom of one of the feet of the pants.

Even though this outfit lends itself most to being a sleeping ensemble, the print and the shape of the garments are modern enough that they could be worn during the day, separately or together.  A scooter is a seemingly grown-up item, but Finn + Emma manages to make it totally kid-friendly without going too baby.  There are also coordinating items in stripes and solid colors that allow for mixing and matching.  I particularly love the reversible scooter jacket, which allows you to showcase the scooter print or keep it simple with the solid gray and scooter detail.  The items for baby girls are equally adorable in shades of purple with a cute, abstract flower print.

Shop!  Finn + Emma’s online store offers the full line of its baby clothes as well as some beautiful crib linens and sleek toys.  (I am coveting the Birch Wood Play Gym (below) with its handmade look and minimalist aesthetic.)  The prices might seem steep at first, but once you consider the quality of materials and construction, they become quite reasonable.

Thanks to Finn + Emma for providing sample product.

Little Trendstar: Hip Styles for Little Stars

by Kate on October 25th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Clothes, Reviews

When it comes to kids t shirts I can think of nothing better than Little Trendstar’s goal of “keeping it fresh, hip and fun.” You know I love dressing my kids up when the occasion is right, but there’s something perfect about throwing a cool shirt and jeans on your little one and heading out the door.

Meet Little Trendstar

The Little Trendstar® brand is dedicated to creating designer kids apparel and specializes in tees and onesies that demand a second look! Since we know kids love the spotlight, our designs are all about capturing attention by focusing on fashionably creative graphics and lots of style. With inspiration that includes style icons, music and sub-cultures, we create stylistic tees that have enough flair to say “look at me”!

Cool Tees for Boys

I’ve never had a problem finding fun clothes for my daughter. But there have been times when I hit the traditional go-to shops for kids searching for clothes for my son and I walk away empty-handed. I find it hard to clothes in my his style to wear to school that aren’t too “fancy” but aren’t so casual that they look like pajamas. And don’t get me started on boys clothes with animals on them. Oy. Little Trendstar is a breath of fresh air with the right balance of quality style.

The In the Mix shirt is a new style for fall with a cool black and white graphic on a red tee. The design is fun for kids but also pleasant for parents. Like Little Trendstar tees, the shirt has a little funky edge without being inappropriate for kids. I am also totally digging the Old School tee with a tape on it.

The obvious focus on being hip doesn’t mean Little Trendstar sacrifices on quality. All shirts are printed on high quality cotton tees with safe, non-toxic and eco-friendly water-based inks which are phthalate free.

If you’re shopping for a girl, you have to check out the Benatar shirt and onesie. This does Pat Benatar proud and is absolutely fabulous.

Shop! Little Trendstar offers FREE SHIPPING on all orders so head over and start browsing the cool shirts now. Sizes range from 3-6 month onesies to 6T tees. Short sleeve and onesies are $24 and long sleeve shirts are $26.

Thanks to Little Trendstar for providing a sample facilitated by Rachel Florio PR.

In my post introducing American Living I shared these photos of my son sporting the brand. He looks so great in the classic polos, khaki shorts and modern denim. He’s worn the clothes several times since these photos were taken (other than the jeans because it’s still too hot), and they all look just as good now as they did the first time he wore them. You really do great quality for the price point.

American Living Girls Fashion

If you’re shopping for a little girl you won’t be disappointed with the clothes from American Living. In addition to classic pieces, there are some really modern finds that are just too great. I’m particularly smitten with the Autumn Sweater Vest. Available in this green and a warm white, the sweater is $25.99 and available in sizes to fit girls 7 to 16 years old.

And can we discuss this Denim Bubble Skirt for $16.99? Love.

For younger girls, I love the Stripe Dress ($19.99).

Shop! American Living is available exclusively at JC Penney, both online and in stores. American Living for kids is available from size 4 through 16. The selection for older kids (7 – 16) offers more variety than for the smaller ones (4 – 6x), but the whole collection shares a cohesive style and all-American appeal.

American Living: Affordable Back to School Clothes

by Kate on August 24th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Back to School, Clothes

American Living, available exclusively at JC Penney, offers a classic and stylish line of very affordable children’s clothes that are made for back to school shopping. Trust us, check out the pieces and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the stylish options that won’t break the bank. This is some back to school shopping you can feel good about.

As part of American Living’s Made for Back to School campaign, we received some clothes for my son and took some time to think about the upcoming school year. My son had to come up with his goals for this school year, and they are rather sweet, if I do say so myself. He wants to 1) Make New Friends and 2) Learn to Read. And, by learn to read, I assume he means other than just memorize books and pretend to read which is what he cutely does now.

But, let’s get to the really good stuff – the clothes! Check out my 4.5 year old rocking the American Living Collection.

Big Stripe Polo (reg. $24, on sale for $9.99) and Bailey Chino Pant in Navy (reg. $32, on sale for $15.99)

Big Stripe Polo & Straight Fit Jean (reg. $36, on sale for $19.99)

Polo (reg. $24, now $9.99) & Solid Cargo Shorts (reg. $34, now $16.99)

Shop! Check out the great clothes made for back to school from American Living. And, if you’re shopping for girls, you must take a peek at the Sweater Vest (I’m obsessed!).
