Pret a Paquet: Style Up Your Lunch {Review}

Pret a Paquet Salad Kit

One of the biggest changes in my eating habits over the last few months has been the switch to cooking almost all of my meals at home – including the breakfast and lunch that I take to work every day.  And of course, I have to make it even more complicated because I don’t eat grains or dairy, so I can’t just throw a sandwich in my bag and go.  Oh, and did I mention that I do this for all three of us – me, my husband, and Charlie?  Yeah…every day.  So my nightly routine looks more like a cross between an assembly line and an episode of Iron Chef. I make double or triple recipes for dinners and then repurpose the protein over the next couple days.  As a result, our fridge and frezzer are always stocked full of storage containers of different sizes.  I’m constantly on the hunt for food holders that hold an actual meal, but are also portable enough that I don’t feel like I need to carry a roller bag to bring two meals to work every day.  I have found the balance in Pret a Paquet.

About Pret a Paquet

Pret a Paquet was founded by our family company – the Bram Group – a homeware manufacturer, renowned for its functional, affordable and trend setting designs.  Our company’s creative spirit was inspired by our own family food traditions. Often family dinners were packed into food-to-go containers laden with healthy home cooked dishes. Sooner or later it became clear to us that toting a meal or snack in a shopping bag or insulated nylon pack was not the answer. It took our creative task force to team up and dream up a stylish series of innovative food-to-go kits.We focused on how to make food travel well in an eco-friendly way while staying true to our style-conscious standards. We wanted to help working moms pack healthy,inexpensive meals while styling-up the whole food-to-go experience.

Fashionable Food

Pret a Paquet Lunch Kit

Pret a Paquet Lunch Kit

Pret a Paquet was kind enough to provide me with one salad kit and one lunch kit, so that I could experience all the ways this line can be used to carry hot and cold meals.  When they arrived, the first thing that struck me was the cool and modern patterns on the neoprene covers.  Very chic!  The sturdy containers (with tops that are color coordinated to the neoprene patterns, by the way) have multiple snap closures so that even the juiciest meal is not going to leak.  A favorite feature of the salad kit was the little container for salad dressing that fits right into the lid.  I used it one day for a salad, but the next day it held my breakfast sandwich and the dressing cylinder held the coconut creamer that I put into my Starbucks dark roast every morning.  The lunch kit is great because it has three compartments – my meals usually consist of a protein and two vegetables, so this piece was obviously just made for me.  Perhaps what was most remarkable about both kits was that the neoprene sleeves kept them cold from the time I left home in the morning until I opened the lunch kit to eat my second meal of the day.  It was great to be able to leave my big lunch cooler tote at home for a day.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… If you are committed to bringing healthy homemade food with you wherever you go, these pieces are a great investment for your food container collection, especially if you also like to make a bit of a style statement along with your home cooking.

Not to Buy… My only complaint is that the dressing container does not snap into the salad kit lid, so it will fall out very easily.  But that’s certainly not a reason to shy away from these beauties!

Shop!  Pret a Paquet exclusive patterns (like those pictured in this post) are available now at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com.

Easy and Beautiful Way to Benefit Your Child’s School? YES!

by Shannon on March 18th, 2013  |  5 Comments  |  Shopping

I sponsored laps for the Fun Run.
I scan my school card at the grocery store.
I use my $10 discount card all over town.
I save Box Tops.
I buy oodles from the Book Fair every time it comes.

I do all I can to support Kindergarten girl’s school. Some of it I like, some of it…not so much. Here’s what I would like: to sit down at this fabulous website

Tiny Prints Website

and order some super-adorable, high quality stationary products and have that purchase support my daughter’s school.

Tiny Prints Storefront

I recently found out that I can do just that! Tiny Prints offers organizations holding a 501(c)(3) non-profit status an opportunity to set up a “storefront” with a personalized URL. Your organization can then publicize the site and products available and earn up to 13% commission from all sales made through the storefront. Establishing a store front is a two-step process: 1) become a Tiny Prints Affiliate through Sharesale’s simple process and 2) apply for a Tiny Prints Storefront.

If your organization signs up between now and March 22, you will be eligible to win one of ten (10) weekly prizes of $1,000 each.

Tiny Prints Storefront Contest

Once your organization has completed the two steps above to establish a Tiny Prints Storefront during the entry period, and you have agreed to the Official Rules, you may fill out a registration form to be entered into the contest. Official entries will be eligible to win one of ten (10) weekly prizes of $1,000 for their organization. Learn more about the contest on Facebook.

Think of it, your school or non-profit organization can earn money for offering colorful, eye-catching invitations, announcements, stationary, photo books, and specialty gifts to your audience.

Tiny Prints Collage2

Not only does Tiny Prints offer individual invitations, but they also offer a complete lines of themed products to help you with your occasion from start to finish. Having a birthday party? You can find the invitation that is perfect along with matching address labels and thank you cards.

Tiny Prints Super Hero Line

Tiny Prints also offers a full line of wedding stationary including invitations for the big event, showers, address labels, thank you cards, mommy calling cards and more.

Why not help your child’s school by shopping for something you want? I’m calling Amanda, my PTO president, to let her know.

Pura Stainless Water Bottle {Review}

by Nicole on November 1st, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Back to School, Reviews

If you’re anything like me, you’re always encouraging your little one to drink more water. But with all of the concern over BPA, BPS, and other toxins potentially leaching out of plastic cups and water bottles, I want to know that the pure, filtered water I give my son is what he’s drinking. Nothing more, nothing less. Thankfully, there are many stainless steel water bottle options on the market these days. Some are cheap coated-aluminum bottles and some, like Pura’s Stainless Steel Water Bottle, are well-made with your safety in mind.

Pura water bottles are made from #304 grade stainless steel and are independently certified to be 100% free of BPA, phthalates, lead, petroleum, and PVC. They boast zero migration of heavy metals, meaning the stainless steel will maintain its integrity and not leach heavy metals into your drink. They come in a fun variety of bright colors and brushed stainless steel and are designed so that no plastic ever comes in contact with your beverage.

Pura’s entire line of water bottles have a “chuggable” wide-mouth design that makes it easy to fit ice cubes and makes clean up a breeze. They can even go in the dishwasher (although the caps should be washed by hand). They come in .6L, .8L, 1.2L, and 2L sizes. The smallest, the .6L, fits easily into a child’s lunchbox or backpack, and even fits in the side pocket of the Skip Hop Zoo Backpack. It also fits in the Skip Hop Zoo Lunchie, and it’s the perfect size for throwing in a diaper bag or purse for on-the-go moms.

Have you ever heard of a water bottle with a Lifetime Warranty? I hadn’t before learning about Pura. They cover everything from leaks to bottle deforming dents due to normal use. Their goal is to ensure that a Pura water bottle is the last bottle you’ll ever have to purchase.

If you have a baby or toddler, be sure to check out Pura’s stainless steel Kiki bottle and sippy cup system. I can’t speak highly enough about this line of bottles and sippy cups. They boast all the benefits of the water bottles but also have dishwasher-safe caps and silicone sleeves. And Pura has cleverly designed the cap to work with a huge selection of name-brand bottle nipples like Avent, ThinkBaby, BornFree, Dr. Brown’s, and more.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… Pura’s water bottles come with a lifetime warranty and have been independently certified to be 100% free of BPA, phthalates, lead, petroleum, and PVC. They won’t leach heavy metals or toxins into your beverage and won’t retain odors. For me, it’s a no-brainer. Buy it!

Not to Buy… Some may balk at the price tag (starting at $15.99 for the .6L size), although it’s reasonable for a high quality stainless steel water bottle. And don’t forget that lifetime warranty: Pura wants to make sure theirs is the last water bottle you’ll ever need to buy.

Shop! Pura water bottles are available from our affiliate Amazon and directly from Pura.

Thanks to Pura for providing a sample for review.

Must Have Shoes for School from Stride Rite {Review & Giveaway}

by Kate on September 28th, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Back to School, Clothes, Giveaways, Reviews

Everyday Shoes, Sneakers & Boots, OH MY!

There are three basic shoes that every child needs for fall and winter: a sneaker suitable for both school and play, a pair of boots to keep feet warm during cooler weather, and a versatile and comfortable every day shoe. My older kids’ shoe rack got a lot sweeter with the three essentials from Stride Rite. Read on for the giveaway and your chance to get some must have shoes for school.

The X-celeRacers X-cavate Sneakers had my son at “hello.” The bright lime sole and accents piqued his interest and then hearing the name “X-celeRacers” sealed the deal. My son is convinced he can actually run faster in these shoes – “Mom! They’re called accelerators!” – but I don’t argue because they are awesome shoes he’ll wear without an argument and look great with most of his outfits. He wears the shoes to school, to play and to, um, race. I love the extra wide opening for easy on and off, and the single X-tra fast strap that has two strips of velcro.

The Stride Rite Safi Boot is not my daughter’s first pair of boots but it may well be the first pair we totally agree upon. Unlike some boots, this pair is super easy to get on and off because of the split construction. It opens wide for her to slip her foot, saving us lots of time and tears. There are two straps that velcro around the lower calf and ankle to keep the boot on securely – the two straps also ensure a comfortable fit for legs of all size. The warm fleece lining keeps her little feet warm on the (already) chilly German mornings.

You can’t get more classic than the versatile Stride Rite SRT Kyla shoe. Available in black, brown and navy blue, the Kyla is a must have basic for preschoolers. It’s designed with the SRT – Sensory Response Technology: “A shock-absorbent flexible outsole with rounded edges provides cushioning and enables feet to move naturally, while helping reduce stumbles and falls.” It’s as if they designed shoes specifically for my  preschooler. The shoes are girly enough to meet my daughter’s standards and practical enough to satisfy everyday wear. I also love the easy closure for quick on and off. (Have you noticed a trend here? Clearly I appreciate a child’s shoe that is easy and saves time!)

More Fall Favorites from Stride Rite

The Stride Rite family includes a variety of brands and styles, including Stride Rite, Robeez by Stride Rite, Keds, Saucony, Sperry Top-Sider and Jessica Simpson. Yes, Jessica Simpson. Y’all, I am not even kidding when I tell you that I was very pleasantly surprised by the Jessica Simpson’s girls shoes. They are adorable! See some examples in the slide show below.

See Kai Run Fall 2012 {Review, Discount Code & Giveaway}

by Kate on September 24th, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Back to School, Clothes, Giveaways, Reviews

Jump for joy! See Kai Run’s Fall 2012 shoes are here!

If you’re looking for stylish shoes for for little feet, look no further than See Kai Run. My kids have been wearing See Kai Run (and Smaller and Kai – when it was Eleven) for years. It’s no surprise, then, that See Kai Run shoes were at the top of our must-have list for back to school.

In case you’re not familiar with the See Kai Run family, here’s a great illustration to demonstrate how the brand designs developmentally appropriate shoes for kids from birth through 6 years old (size 13).

The Collin baby bootie by Smaller is made of soft, flexible leather so its for cruising, early walking and first steps. The See Kai Run Carson boot has a flexible rubber sole that encourages movement and enhances support while durable enough for outdoor play and active toddlers. The same style is reflected in the Charles boot from Kai, which has a flexible rubber sole to support active kids.

My 5 year old is keeping Kindergarten cool in the brand new Kai Xavi brown boot from the new fall collection. Similar to the Charles boot pictured above, Xavi is perfect for active kids with a padded tongue, easy on and easy off, adjustable Velcro closures, and cushioned insole. The sole is flexible, but provides important support so the shoes will thrive on the playground and look great all the while. I truly love the style – they go with anything and have already proven to be a fall staple.

See Kai Run Fall Collection 2012

Perfect for school, See Kai Run has introduced Sneakers. They have all the qualities you love in See Kai Run shoes in an athletic style. The shoes are lightweight, flexible and comfortable. We’ve rounded up our favorite Sneakers and fall styles for school age girls and boys.

Tea Collection: Stock Up on Stylish School Clothes & Save {Giveaway}

by Kate on September 20th, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Back to School, Clothes, Giveaways, Reviews

We love Tea Collection and are excited to share style from this fall’s collection, spread the word about a great sale and tell you about an awesome vacation contest. And did we mention one lucky reader will win a $100 Tea Collection shopping spree!

Tea Collection Stylish School Clothes

The idea of form meeting function has never been more true than when trying to dress my daughter for school. Form meaning it has to look good. My daughter is picky with a capital P about what she wears. Clothes must meet her high standards for appearance and a piece gets bonus points for being pink or a dress. At the same time, her clothes must be very functional and ready for action because she never.sits.still. This is even more important when she’s at school as she is on class hikes in the woods, playing on the jungle gym and generally being 3 year olds. We have found the perfect combination of good looking and practical in Tea Collection clothes. I love the clothes because they are modern and cute without being OMG-pink-cutesy-gag and they are designed to stand the test of time in both appearance and construction. She loves them because they’re comfortable and she can wear a dress to school (yay!) due to the awesome selection of coordinating leggings.

Destination: Nordic Design

It’s no secret we love Tea Collection and every season I look forward to the collection’s new destination. Last spring we went to Bali with the brand and this fall it’s all about Nordic Design. The collection was inspired by Nordic designers’ ‘beautiful things for everyday use’, including eye-popping colors, florals and swaggering stripes. The goal was to create clothes that look “that combines a clean and modern feeling with the charm of handmade crafts.” We love the geometric graphics, mixture of colors and mod feeling of the clothes. This is definitely one of our favorite recent collections.

To make the most of the mix and match feature of the collection, we picked the Adorable Mikko 4-Piece Wardrobe SetFinn Flora T-Shirt Dress and the Spiralbound Top. Check out some of the looks below.

Skip*Hop ZOO Packs & Lunchies {Perfect for Pre-School}

by Kate on September 12th, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  Back to School, Reviews

Skip*Hop continues to be one of our favorite brands for baby and children’s goods. They are always creating innovative products (like the Complete Sheet), stylish and useful items for parents (like Jonathan Adler <3 Skip Hop Diaper Bags) and colorful toys for babies (like the PlaySpot). We’re happy to report the brand also has some items that are perfect for back to school: the ZOO Packs and Lunchies. They are simply cute, totally affordable and perfectly pint-sized for your little one to take to preschool.

Whoooo’s Ready for School?

The Skip*Hop Pack is a backpack for little kids, which they define as kids 3 and older. The back pack is the perfect size for my 3 year old to wear on her back, and the padded adjustable shoulder straps make it a breeze. The roomy main compartment easily holds a blanket for rest time, her school snack and precious artwork. It’s not big enough to easily carry a folder, but you can make it work if you have to. The Pack has some great features we love like the front insulated pouch, adjustable pocket for a cup, and a write-on name tag on the inside.

And we simply can’t say enough about the darling design details in every single Pack. For example, the Owl has pointy ears, bright eyes and leaf pull tags on the zippers.

The ZOO Lunchies insulated lunch bags are just as fabulous as the Packs. The bag is insulated and wipes clean easily – a must have for messy toddlers. It easily holds a sandwich, drink box and two “sides” like an apple or small containers of snacks. An interior mesh pocket is perfect for utensils and a napkin.

We love that the designs match the ZOO Packs, right down to the small details like zippeer-pulls.

New ZOO!

Click through the slideshow to check some of the newest animals in the Skip*Hop ZOO. We dare you to pick just one favorite.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… There is so much cuteness and function in these little PACKS and LUNCHIES, but the best part may be the price. We think it’s a steal that you can get a matching set of both for less than $35. The back pack and lunch bags are seriously perfect for preschool and my daughter loves carrying them.

Or Not to Buy… We can’t think of any good reason not to add one (or more) of these to your ZOO.

Shop! The Skip*Hop ZOO collection is extremely affordable. Pack little kid backpacks are only $20 (buy from our affiliate Amazon), and the Lunchies back packs are only $14 (see them on Amazon).
