Fashion is fickle. Every season, the “in” pieces change and the trends evolve. And, I, for one, am always left staring at my closet wondering what in the world to wear that won’t look like I arrived directly from 1999. (Between us, I do have a few things in my closet from the ’90s.) Of course, the “I have nothing to wear” dilemma is made infinitely more frustrating because year after year, season after season I actually do buy new clothes and accessories.

I had a major A-HA! moment when I learned that eyewear is the only fashion item covered by insurance. Specifically, vision insurance like that offered by VSP Direct. If you wear glasses, you know that eyewear can be a huge expense so this is major.

Confession time: I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 3 (yes, three) years old. Clearly times have changed since I started wearing glasses in 1980, but – move over, Internet – no great progress has been made than in eyewear fashion. My first several pairs of glasses were identical: round, much to big for my face, thick nondescript brown frames.

Even my basic ugly glasses cost an arm and a leg and they had to be replaced every year for years. I thought about adding up the total dollar amount I’ve spent on glasses in my life, but it’s simply too depressing. It would make my seasonal clothing updates look like a quick trip to the dollar store. So, if you’re like me, you probably love the sound of the affordable individual vision care insurance.

Inspired Looks

The sad reality is that at I will likely not be able to add eyeglasses to my list of accessories until we’re talking reading glasses. My prescription is simple too bad for me to be seen in public wearing eyeglasses. I can always hold out hope for the day when the Coke-bottle glasses look makes its way onto the runways.

But, the rest of you? You know that the right glasses can make a fabulous fashion statement. I put together two looks inspired by Nine West eyewear to give you a (very small) idea of the fashionable frames covered by VSP Direct.

First up? An Easy to wear outfit incorporating the moto jacket trend and featuring the Black Frames from Nine West.

I want to wear this outfit every day, and many of us could, as it includes basics you may already have in your closet. The neutral colors of the clothes let the fun purple horn rims of the Nine West eyeglasses do all the talking. Er, seeing. You know what I mean.
