Every once in a while, a start up organization comes along that really makes a difference in someone’s life. Meet Jessica Ekstrom, the force behind Headbands of Hope. Jessica interned with the Make a Wish Foundation in college and was deeply affected by the girls and young women she met battling childhood cancers. She was inspired to do something to make these girls feel beautiful, even as chemotherapy took their hair and eroded their self-confidence. You can read Jessica’s story at Headbands of Hope.
For every headband sold by Headsbands of Hope, one is given to a girl with cancer and $1 is donated to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund life-saving childhood cancer research. That is a whole lot more than can be said for most items we purchase. So go ahead, get yourself (and your daughters, sisters, and girlfriends) a new headband and know that you’ve helped brighten a little girl’s day as she sees her reflection in the mirror.
Headbands of Hope offers a huge selection of headbands ranging in price from around $10 – $20. There is something to fit every taste, from shabby chic to tie dye and everything in between. And they are even made in the USA. Here’s a few of our favorites.
