Good books are powerful.
Late this spring, my son was so excited about his new library books that he went running to Daddy with one. Along the way, he tripped and the book hit him in the eye. Good books are powerful.
Okay, so maybe that’s not what I meant. What I mean is that a book that engages the creativity, imagination and wonder of a child can forever change lives.
My children are fortunate to be surrounded by a bounty of good books, both ours and borrowed from the library. Unfortunately, that is not the case for many of this nation’s children. But with the CapitalOne Book by Book campaign, you can help change that.
CaptialOne, in partnership with The Heart of America Foundation, will donate one book to a child in need for every “like” received on the Book by Book Facebook page October 15 – November 15. You can help by simply visiting and liking the page. So far, almost 7,000 books have been donated, but your “like” is vital in reaching the goal of 50,000 book donations.
Here’s an even more amazing part of this program, in addition to adding to donations, you can vote on which book titles are donated. With 60 popular titles from some of the most wonderful children’s authors, voting for just five won’t be easy.
Observance of National Family Literacy Day is November 1. There is no simpler way to show your support of families reading together than the Book by Book program.
Win! $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Card!
For further incentive, The Shopping Mama is giving away a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card to one reader who “likes” the Book by Book page and votes on five titles.
To enter, simply leave a comment below letting us know you liked the page and made a contribution to children in need.
Giveaway ends November 2.
