The Camera’s Along for the Ride

The Action Shot is a camera built for action – it is compact, mounts to a variety of surfaces and records a unique point of view. We wanted to experience and remember a soccer game from my son’s point of view so we took the Action Cam to the “Blue Thunder vs. Bumblebees” 5 and  6 year old soccer game. My husband and my son took turns recording the action.

Obviously, to be such a mobile camera, the Action Shot has to be small. It’s so small, in fact, that even my 3 year old can wear it comfortably. The Action Shot weighs only 2.25 pounds and the Deluxe Mounting Kit includes a velcro band that keeps it secure around heads (and helmets) of all shapes and sizes.

The Action Shot also takes still photos in 640 x 380 pixels. In case you’ve ever wondered what your child sees when they look up at you… it’s not attractive. In any resolution.

But this one of Coach Dad welcoming teammates off the field is much sweeter  - and just perfect from a kid’s perspective.

The Action Shot has a MicroSD memory card slot to capture more action, but we used only the 128 MB onboard memory and found it to be plenty for our night at the soccer game. Making a movie on my Mac was easy – easier than with some other cameras, actually – when I connected the Action Shot using the included Mini USB to USB connector.

Recording a movie or taking a photo is very easy once you get the hang of the two buttons. (Yes, only two!) There’s a power Button which also change the recording Mode and a Record/Stop button that, you guessed it, starts recording, stops and takes photos in the Camera Mode. The actual camera is just the bare bones, but there are affordable accessories that add functionality. For example, you need an additional Portable Mobile Viewer to see what you’ve shot or else you have to wait until you connect to a computer.

Action Movie Shot with Action Shot!

My son and husband recorded some game film at my son’s soccer game the other night. Here’s a peak at the action!

And… A Professional’s Look at Action Shot

Okay, so maybe my son’s POV doesn’t really do the camera justice. Here’s a look at the camera with Travis Pastrana, X Games champion and Action Shot enthusiast.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… The Action Shot Camera is the perfect gift for kids in the YouTube age. It’s affordable, fun and easy to use. We think it’s a great holiday gift option for hard to shop for tweens. It’s really a great gift for any active child – whether active on the sports field, riding bikes or exploring outdoors.

Or Not to Buy… We had a little trial and error with the camera – setting is upside down on my son’s head, not actually recording when we thought we were. Easy to overcome and totally forgiveable given the affordable price.

Shop! Action Shot Camera and Accessories are available at retailers nationwide including Toys R Us, Target and our affiliate Amazon. The Action Shot in Standard Definition is $49 but it’s also available in an HD camera for $99.

Win! An Action Shot Camera Package worth $135.

Prize Package Includes: Action Shot Camera, Portable Video Viewer, Waterproof Case, Deluxe Mounting Kit, and High Impact Kit.
