BABYBJÖRN Cradle Harmony {Review}

By Kate |

When BABYBJÖRN got to work on a cradle, it had four requirements: help baby fall asleep, be comfortable, have an attractive design and above all the cradle had to be safe. The result is the first of its kind Cradle Harmony. The Cradle is a parent’s dream (lightweight, safe, simple design) and the unique gentle bouncing motion will send baby off to dreamland, too.

BABYBJÖRN Cradle

The gentle rocking of BABYBJÖRN Cradle Harmony is a soothing and secure way for your baby to fall asleep. The cradle is perfect in the early months when your newborn alternates short periods of sleep and wakefulness. It is easy to move around your home so you can always keep your baby close to you.

Cradle At a Glance

  • Recommended age: From newborn to approximately 6 months, maximum weight 18 lbs
  • Materials: The mesh fabric is made of 100% polyester, the mattress cover is made of cotton and the legs are made of wood and steel.
  • Measurements: 26 inches tall, 31 inches in length, 23 inch width
  • Weight: 13 pounds

For Peaceful Moments

Adding a baby into your home means an influx of stuff and things and chaos and noise and so many baby products add to that. the BABYBJÖRN Cradle does the opposite. It’s simple design, clean white fabrics and quiet function actually evoke a sense of calm. It’s safe to say that from the moment I assembled the Cradle Harmony I was smitten. (Speaking of assembly, there has never been an easier cradle to put together. Ever. Everything you need comes in the box, and it takes about 2 minutes.)

The Cradle rests on legs made of wood and steel and bounces like a high-end stroller with great suspension. It can move subtly with baby’s movements or more markedly with parent’s assistance. To be honest, the bounce reminds me of the BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance.

With a low height (26 inches) and see-through mesh fabric, the Cradle allows the parent to easily see baby. It’s perfect for parents to keep eyes on baby while laying in bed, but it is just as easy to get a glimpse of baby from across the room. The mesh fabric is also safe for baby as it is breathable and allows for air flow. In addition, there’s no need to worry about baby getting stuck or wedged in the Cradle as it always remains flat – never at an angle – and there are no loose parts, bars or holes to trap little hands and feet.

The perfectly compact Cradle weighs only 13 pounds so it is extremely portable, allowing you to take it from room to room. There’s no need to disassemble or squeeze through door frames to move it. It’s clean lines and beautiful appearance mean the Cradle will fit into your home rather than an eyesore you try to hide. (You can see it in our traditional guest room below and in our more modern bedroom in the video.) The height is perfect for settling up near the bed to allow baby to safely room share with parents.

Max in Harmony

This may be the first time I wish Max wasn’t so chubby because, at six months, he has outgrown the Cradle Harmony. The weight limit is 18 pounds and, for safety reasons, you need to discontinue using the Cradle when your baby can sit up, pull up or stand. Luckily, we did get a few supervised naps in the Cradle and Max was in lala land.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… The Cradle Harmony is truly a first of its kind product from BABYBJORN. We love that it was designed to help baby soothe himself to sleep and with safety as a priority. The result is a beautiful, simple and effective cradle that will make those first months with baby easier on the whole family. This is a great way to allow baby to safely co-sleep in parent’s bedroom. The high quality and timeless design make it a perfect to pass down from baby to baby. We can just imagine a mom two generations from now happily laying her baby in this heirloom quality cradle.

Or Not to Buy… Baby’s will outgrow the Cradle around 6 months of age so it does have a relatively short lifespan relative to the price. It’s definitely worth the investment if you plan on more than one child, or want to have a great piece to hand down to baby’s in your family.

Shop! The Cradle Harmony will be available at major retailers, including Amazon, in October with a suggested retail price of  $349.95. Complete the look with the Canopy for Cradle Harmony.

Thanks, Anastasia! It really is beautiful. Not “baby-ish” at all.

Does it come in adult sizes? LOL! Looks so comfy! In all seriousness, I love that you can see through it to keep an eye on baby without having to get up. Fab!

Love the shape, size and overall look of this cradle. I’m bummed you didn’t get a chance to use it longer. It is definitely one to pass down as you said. (Love your new blue duvet/quilt btw!)

The blue is in our guest room. You should come visit so you can call it your own for a few nights. :)

Hi Kate! Just wondering, did you find the Harmony mattress pad to be sufficient enough for your infant? Wondering if I should buy a firmer mattress for the bassinet?

Hi Rachel! The mattress is totally sufficient enough for a baby. It’s firm (for baby safety), but definitely seems more plush and comfortable than a pack n play mattress, for example.

Thanks for your info. Now that it has been on the market for awhile have you still heard just good things about the cradle. I know the price is steep but that would not stop me from the purchase. Just wondering if all new moms like it
