We’ve been in country for two weeks tomorrow. Two weeks! In some ways, because I’m tired of living out of suitcases and sleeping in a hotel, it seems like it’s been MUCH longer. But in the scheme of things I know our adventures here are just beginning. I’m so proud of all we’ve done already.
As difficult a move this has been on me, I have to say I’m a little jealous of my kids. I was born and raised in the same town, lived in the same house from the time I was five until I moved away to college. My childhood was the exact opposite of theirs. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. But, my kids will see and experience things I didn’t until well into my 20′s. It’s really a completely different childhood from my own.
Anyway, here’s a look at some of our first adventures in Germany as seen through Instagram.
Burg Nanstein: There are castles everywhere here. This particular castle was only a few minutes drive from our first hotel. The castle is at the top of a mountain, overlooking the area (including the Air Base). We ate dinner at the restaurant at the top with friends and enjoyed the amazing view.
Trier: One of my favorite little German cities from the last time we lived here. The city was only a thirty minute drive from our last base and is over an hour from our current location. The city’s claim to fame is the “Porta Nigra” (translated: black gate) which is a Roman gate to protect the city dating back to 180 AD. Of course, I don’t have a picture of that, so take my word that it’s cool.
The other site to see is the Trier Dom (Cathedral). It is the oldest church in Germany.

July 9, 2012I’m loving these photos. We lived in Germany for 6 months and visited Trier and many, many castles as well. Makes me so want to go back. Your kids are definitely lucky!
