It happens every year. I can’t wait for the lazy days of summer. Then summer comes and brings with it swim lessons, princess camp, ooey gooey science camp, trips to see relatives and play dates. All too soon our days are more full than ever.

With only three weeks until school starts in our district, I’m making time for “backyard lazy.” Helping me keep backyard lazy from being bor-ring? Target and their “Big Honkin’ Summer” supplies. Making our blow up pool more interesting this summer are:

• 5-piece inflatable play set – Including a beach ball, arm bands, swim ring and surfer, this set is a huge hit with preschool girl and toddler boy. They actually play together pulling each other on the surfer and throwing the ball back and forth.
• Jelly Belly manual ice shaver and snow cone cups with swirl straws – The HIT of backyard lazy is the Jelly Belly snow cone maker, colorful silicone cups and swirly straws. My kids have never begged so much for anything. “Can we pweeeeeze have snow cones now?” This is backyard lazy, so I keep it simple and healthy by shaving frozen organic apple juice and that makes us all happy.
• roll up beach blanket – If the snow cones are the hit of backyard lazy, the roll up beach blanket is the work horse. The kids have lazed upon it, it keeps their little feet safe from hot concrete and it serves as a transition to the pool keeping dirt and debris from the water.
• Up and Up SPF 30 ultra sunscreen lotion – Backyard lazy cannot come at the cost of tender skin. Up & Up SPF 30 ultra sunscreen lotion provides UVA & UVB protection, is water/sweat resistant and is PABA free.

Target generously provided the supplies mentioned above, but we’ve added to our backyard fun with inexpensive balloon rockets, bubbles, Velcro catch paddles, punch balloons and propelled flying discs all available in the Target toy department.
