Special K asks What You’ll Gain When You Lose

My husband and I have always struggled with our weight, but our battle has been a losing one over the last two years.  In that time we’ve both taken on challenging new jobs, but more importantly, we’ve been focused on conceiving, “gestating,” and now raising our little boy.  Our goal for 2012 is not just to lose weight, but also to change our lifestyle so that we can set a good example for Charlie.

I am excited to see that Special K is encouraging a supportive approach to weight loss with its new Special K Movement.  A new promotion for the Special K Challenge, the Movement asks the question, “What Will You Gain When You Lose?“  The aim of the movement is to make our weight loss conversations more about what we can do than what we can’t.  So often we get mired down by the scale, when really our inspiration for losing weight is so much more personal. For me, it’s mostly about showing Charlie how to live a healthy lifestyle, but I’m also looking forward to gaining back the beautiful stylish clothes that are still hanging in my closet, waiting for me to put them on again.  I will also gain the energy and stamina that I need to chase around a little boy who becomes more mobile every day.  For me, those things are way more important than where I fall on a height/weight chart.

In case you haven’t heard of the Challenge, it is a two week plan that replaces two meals and two snacks per day with Special K products (cereals, shakes, bars, etc.)   The website also offers recipes for the one meal each day that you make yourself.  The Movement’s Facebook page offers video diaries from real women who are participating in the challenge, putting a face to the fears and successes of weight loss.  You can “like” the page and participate with your own comments, and also follow the movement on Twitter.  If you’d prefer to get involved in person, Special K is also hosting two “National Weigh-In Day” events today in Los Angeles and New York. You can also add your own photo to the “What Will You Gain Gallery“.

I love this message. And this year I’ll gain a BABY when I lose weight. (I know that’s kind of cheating.) :)
