Razzle-Dazzle Ruby {Children’s Book Review & Prize Package Giveaway}

In the world of interactive children’s books, the bar was just raised with Scholastic’s introduction of Razzle-Dazzle Ruby  penned and illustrated by internationally recognized watercolor artist Masha D’Yans.

This book features snowflakes that twirl, birds that fly, a dog that runs toward you, spinning snowballs, a “whirly-twirling” snowman (excuse me, an evil “whirly-twirly” ice prince), snow angels and a paper doll to dress and undress. This wonderfully interactive book kept both my toddler boy and preschool girl very engaged as I shared the story of Ruby and her faithful dog, Rocket. In a winter wonderland of snow, Ruby uses her imagination to create fun in the great outdoors. Ruby embarks upon a fairy tale adventure where she conquers a foe and searches for her lost knight (Rocket…apparently Ruby’s dog wanders off like my Abbie Lab).

My children and I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive features of Razzle-Dazzle Ruby. They liked it so much that preschool girl sat down with toddler boy and a playdate friend this morning and “read” the book to them.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… Razzle-Dazzle Ruby is beautifully illustrated and features unique interactive manipulatives. I’m the first one to say, “I’ll check it out from the library,” but with the hands-on nature of this book the library version will be handled to pieces in no time. That’s not to say the book is not durable. It stood the test of toddler boy and only came out with one small tear. The content of the book is also enriching, featuring a young lady who is creative and self-sufficient. I enjoyed sharing it with my children.

Or Not to Buy… If you have shared enough “fairy tale” stories with your children, this book may not be for you. However, at the end we find out that Ruby will be venturing to the “splish-splash sea” next, so maybe there’s a sequel in the works?
