Believe it or not, the photo above was taken on Halloween morning. It was in the high 30s in Philadelphia, so Charlie and I had to pack his Halloween costume and don our winter gear for the trip to daycare. I took the day off to partake in the festivities, which included a Halloween costume parade around the neighborhood. The teachers said they could always use extra grownups for the walk, so I put Charlie in his costume, loaded him into his stroller and helped corral a few toddlers. But within the first block of our walk, we had this:
A very tired dinosaur. Or is it a dragon? Whatever.
He woke up for the last couple blocks of the parade and enjoyed himself, but then it was time for lunch and afternoon naps. I took the opportunity to sneak across the street to one of my favorite local joints for lunch (okay, and a bloody mary…sue me). By the time I got back, Charlie was up and (to my surprise), doing this:
Yes, that is my boy sitting up all on his own and playing with a toy. We just started making a concerted effort to practice sitting up last week, and asked daycare to help too. It still never ceases to amaze me how fast these kiddos can pick up a skill. This scene quickly devolved into some pained crying due to teething (even though we still have zero teeth), but a pacifier and the distraction of the afternoon Halloween party made everything all better. We went back home for a quick stroll around the neighborhood in costume, and some handing out of candy from our front steps.
Tomorrow is our big six month well visit. We anticipate that the doctor will tell us he’s right on track and still at the 50th percentile with all his measurements. As my mother used to say about me, he’s our “just right” baby. We can talk about his chances of getting into Harvard at his 12-month visit.
