Zulily Launches a Mobile App! {$25 Credit Giveaway}

by Kate on August 11th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Giveaways

One of my very favorite websites that I visit nearly every day is Zulily. In case you’re not familiar (and, trust me, you should be!), the site offers more than 15 unique and sought-after children’s boutique brands at discounts of up to 90 percent off retail prices every day. I’ve purchased everything from Eleven Collection shoes to Kate Quinn Organics clothing to Stephen Joseph plates and everything in between for amazing prices. But, because sales only last 72 hours and quantities are limited, I’ve also missed out on a deal or two because I wasn’t at home to order on my computer. Problem solved! Zulily is launching a mobile app to make it easy to order directly from your iPhone!

About the Zulily App

“Millions of busy moms shop Zulily’s site regularly to discover the best brands and hottest styles for their family at the lowest prices, but they are typically on-the-go,” said Darrell Cavens, founder and CEO of Zulily. “With the iPhone app, moms can take a quick peek at the day’s sales from anywhere, at anytime and never miss out on a great deal from Zulily or their favorite brand.”

How It Works

With the new iPhone app, members can easily shop the site from their iPhone, receive daily reminders when new sales events begin and also invite new friends to earn a $15 credit on their next purchase. In addition, with Zulily’s new all-day shopping, one-time shipping capabilities, members can use their iPhone to buy something they love when the daily email arrives and then shop all day while on-the-go without paying another standard shipping fee.

The iPhone application has the same look and feel as the Zulily site. You can browse the days sales to see what’s New Today, Girls’ Clothes, Accessories, Women & Maternity and more.

Once you’re in a sale you like, you can browse the items for sale and then BUY directly from your iPhone. Dangerous, mamas. This is dangerous power!

Shop! Join Zulily and shop from anywhere with the brand new FREE Zulily app for iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Win! To Celebrate the Launch of the App, Zulily is Offering  $25 Gift Credit to One Winner!

How to Enter: Answer this question in a comment -  Where would you shop on the go if you knew you could? In the carpool lane? From bed? On the couch?

Earn Extra Entries – valid only after the first entry. Please leave a comment for each you do.

Giveaway ends August 24. You must have a Zulily account to claim the prize.

Partum Me?! Online Parenting

by Laura on August 10th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Parenting, Partum Me

16 Weeks.  SIXTEEN WEEKS!  I can’t believe that, in just a few days, Charlie will be exactly four months old.  He continues to entertain us with his ever-expanding vocabulary of facial expressions and coos.  Just this week, he’s started to take notice of our pets.  Our dog, Brooklyn, has been by his side since he was born, but is just now being rewarded with some attention from “his boy.”  We are sure that they will have a great relationship as Charlie grows, although Brooklyn might live to regret wanting attention from him as Charlie starts to become more  mobile and better at grabbing things, people, animals, etc.

It’s hard to believe that we have been parents for nearly four months.  As first timers, we have sought advice from a variety of sources.  I prefer to ask our most trusted friends whose parenting styles are most aligned with ours.  We also have a shelf full of books, but we rarely consult them.  The fact is, like most parents today, we turn to the internet when we have a question that we need to answer right away.  I have culled together a bunch of websites and blogs (in addition to The Shopping Mama, of course!) that I have found to be the most useful, or the most fun, when it comes to kids stuff.

Baby Center – I first got turned on to Baby Center when I signed up for their weekly pregnancy email.  You know, the one that tells you what fruit or vegetable currently matches the size of your fetus.  Pregnant women live for that weekly email.  It feels good to know that your gestating baby has gone from kumquat-size to japanese eggplant.  It ends up that Baby Center is a great resource for actual information about little ones and parenting, too.  I like it because it seems to be one of the less lecture-y sites out there, and it has advice for all types of moms.  It’s also very easily searchable, making it a snap to find the info you need in a pinch.

Mothering.com – This site might be on the crunchy side for some, but I especially love the forums.  Sure, there are a few moms who get a bit militant about certain things, especially breastfeeding and cloth diapering, but it’s easily searchable and chances are your question has already been answered and you can find a bunch of different opinions all in one place.  I found the online community at Mothering to be especially helpful and supportive when we were trying to conceive Charlie.  Since then, I have searched both the website and the forums for advice on everything from diapering to developmental milestones.

Ask Dr. Sears – Again, this site might be a little too touchy feely for some parents, especially since Dr. Sears is a big advocate of attachment parenting, but I have found a good deal of great advice on this site about nurturing a child, breastfeeding support, and baby wearing, among other things.  A lot of what I’ve read here is not necessarily instant solutions to an issue, but more like suggestions that you can put into practice for long term results.  I recently read this article about sleeping and it has helped me put things into perspective for Charlie and identify how we want to structure his time going forward.

Ohdeedoh – This kid-centered arm of the awesome Apartment Therapy blog is awesome if you are a city parent, or just someone who tries to be as socially conscious as possible and live a somewhat compact life.  They have lots of product reviews and how-to’s for everything from building custom kid’s rooms to great wooden toys.  My favorite features are the posts about cool and unique birthday party ideas and real people’s design ideas for their children’s bedrooms/nurseries.  They also have the occasional post where a reader asks a question about child-rearing and the readers give their answers in the comments.  Everything they do feels bright, modern, and inclusive.

Baby Cheapskate – This is a blog dedicated entirely to telling the world about upcoming and current discounts, sales, and deals both online and in stores.  It needs no further explanation other than to say it’s awesome.

This Lunch Rox – The woman who writes this blog is a dynamo.  Even though Charlie isn’t even on solid foods yet, I read this blog every. single. day. to see her latest creations.   If I can make lunches that are even half as awesome as what she makes, I’ll consider myself a rousing success.  She also includes alot of super healthy recipes that are meant to be substitutes for their higher calorie/sugar counterparts.  I’ve bookmarked a bunch that I hope to make even before Charlie is old enough to eat them.  I have to make my own lunch fun, too!

Nater Tot – Full disclosure: the author of this blog is a law school friend of mine so I’m a bit biased, but I love her honest (and wonderfully sarcastic) approach to parenting.  There is tons of helpful info in her posts about using sign language as an early developmental language tool and making your house as BPA free as possible.  She also writes some great breastfeeding articles over at Examiner.com.

What are your favorite websites/blogs about parenting and fun kid stuff?

What I Wore Wednesday {#BlogHer Style}

by Kate on August 10th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Blogging, Fashion & Beauty, Shopping

Last week I gave you a look at the clothes I was planning to wear to BlogHer in San Diego. Thanks to a large suitcase and a hotel iron, I happily socialized in all those duds. Have a look…

I switched it up a bit, and wore jeans, a tank and a cardigan on Friday rather than the dress I had planned. The vibe in San Diego was so relaxed and the weather so cool that I was happy I made the switch.

Friday night I donned my navy and white stripe dress (a color combination I’m totally obsessed with at the moment) with a coral open cardigan. I was so thankful for the cardy on the pedicab right home with Jo-Lynne, Nicole and Brooke from a party to our hotel. It was chilly!

I spent much of Saturday in the Mom’s Fashion File Style Suite. I got to hand out awesome Lands’ End Swag Bags to the lucky makeover moms.

Jo-Lynne, the other Style Agent send by Lands End, and I rocked our Lands’ End Canvas all day long.

Saturday night was the big Mom’s Fashion File Secret Style Suite party. What a great party! Again, Jo-Lynne and I were sporting Lands’ End. I loved my dress – it was so comfortable!

Huge thanks to Lands’ End for providing airfare, hotel and stylish clothing so I could attend BlogHer ’11.

Moving Cards

by Kate on August 10th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  For Mama, Shopping

It’s summer and for many in the military community that means it’s moving season. Our family was one of those families that packed up and moved across the country, and Shannon’s preparing to move next month. With all that frequent moving it can be hard to keep track of where all our friends live. And, I admit that I haven’t always been great about keeping our friends up to date with our newest contact information. But this move I was on top of things with the help of fabulous custom moving announcement cards from Tiny Prints.

I’ve come to expect a lot from Tiny Prints – from great, modern design to easy to use interface to high quality printed cards. And the wonderful moving cards we personalized were no exception. I picked the Global View card because it pretty much represents our life – moving from place to place. To place.

I personalized the card with our family name and new contact info. I added both my husband’s and my emails and phone numbers. The original draft put our email addresses on different lines and it didn’t look quite right. I was hoping the company would notice – and they did! Customer Care sent me two mock ups of the card for me to decide which version to print. And, I didn’t take them up on the offer, but Tiny Prints also offers an addressing service where they’ll address and mail some or all of your cards for you – you only pay for shipping!

There is a great variety of moving cards and announcement son Tiny Prints, but here’s a small sampling of my favorites.

Fresh Mail

Simply Understated

Key Stamps

 Moving Dots

And if you have A LOT going on, the Boxed Joy card can spread all your good news.

Shop! Tiny Prints moving cards and announcements are surprisingly affordable. For example, a set of 20 cards like we personalized is $29.80. Prices vary depending on design, so check them out and get moving.

Thanks to Tiny Prints for providing samples.
