While I’m not sure anyone else has, I’ve missed doing my circle cutter crafts and I’m in love with this rainbow banner I made for my mom’s office. I’ve had rainbows on the brain since my post about rainbow items two weeks ago. In fact, I decided at that time the theme for toddler boy and preschool girl’s combined birthday would be “rainbow.” You can bet I’ll be making the Happy Birthday banner out of this circle banner.
To begin the project, I took pictures of my children holding the individual letters in “Grandma” and had wallet size photos printed. I had seven letters, so that fit the colors of the rainbow really well. I then cut 4.5-inch circles in various colors and 4-inch circles in an off-white speckled paper to provide a solid background for the photos.
After layering a photo with off-white paper and colored paper, I taped them together with double-sided tape. Of course, you could use a glue stick or glue. I also punched a hole in the top of each circle.
For the ribbon to string the banner, why choose one color when you’re already working with the rainbow? I chose very narrow ribbon and used each color of the rainbow. To string six different ribbons, I measured out the amount I needed and taped one end together with one ribbon sticking out just a bit farther than the rest. This made stringing through the small hole punches very simple.
Because I did not want the individual circles to “travel” along the string, I tied a simple knot at the top of the hole as I added each letter.
And the final product looks really good on the wall. Of course this project can be tailored to any size, color scheme and message. If you wish to make a black and orange banner with your children holding the letters for “Happy Halloween” printed on 8X10 photos, go for it!
All tied up and ready to slip into an envelope.

July 5, 2011Thank you, everyone! I’m making the letters for “Happy Birthday” today and will have various people that the kids know and love hold them up for photos. I’ll make the banner a little bigger than this one and I know we will tuck it away as a keepsake.
You did a great job!! Love this
