A bit about Vana Chupp, owner of Le Papier Studio
Professionally trained as an architect, Vana Chupp has always been artistically inspired by the sweet and simple moments in life. In 2008 Vana launched her dream job; Le Papier Studio, a small woman-owned business that expresses creativity and inspiration, all the while giving her time to fulfill her most important job; being a mom. Among our favorite Le Papier Studio designs is the Custom Silhouette where you are able to select the border color, silhouette, and personalize the print as well.
TSM: What three elements do you feel make the biggest impact on a nursery’s overall look & feel?
Vana Chupp:
1. wall art
2. bedding + furniture
3. texture
TSM: Where do you get your inspiration for your silhouette prints?
VC: My love for silhouettes began with the birth of my son. Documenting my son’s milestones by capturing his personality, emotion, playfulness and essence, I use silhouettes to tell my own life story. It’s a love story – continuing to blossom, with Nikolas as my muse. Coming full circle, I was able to combine my passion and artistic experience for silhouettes and share it all with my lovely customers in the form of silhouette prints and other unique products.
TSM: Silhouette art is such a classic, timeless addition to baby’s nursery. Tell us a bit about your new book Silhouette Art: Papers, Instructions, and Patterns for Making Modern Heirlooms.
VC: Both classic and modern in their simplicity, silhouettes are a lovely way to make inexpensive yet exquisitely unique gifts. With the materials included in Silhouette Art —and very little time or artistic skill—you can make stunning silhouettes to frame, hang as ornaments, apply to stationery, make into jewelry, and create other keepsakes.
TSM: We love browsing the silhouette tutorials on your blog. For our first silhouette project, what is the simplest project to begin with that will have maximum impact on baby’s nursery?
VC: Thank you! I would recommend you start with the Silhouette Print. All you need is a photograph (or template provided in Silhouette Art), a pair of scissors, and the contents of this crafty treasure trove.
TSM: Describe your son’s nursery & your process in decorating it.
VC: You might guess that the few focal point in my son’s nursery are a series of silhouettes I created of him – documenting all 5 years of his life so far. When we were planning his nursery we wanted to keep in simple yet playful with a few versatile pieces of furniture that will grow with him. My husband custom built a daybed and I sewed curtains and a few coordinating pillow covers. A tall bookshelf from IKEA is home to all his toys and books and a few hand me down heirloom pieces. We have a few art pieces hanging on the wall given to us by an artist friend. A life size silhouette decal of my son blowing bubbles welcomes you as you come in the nursery. It’s my favorite decor element as it captures his personality so well.
