I have always tried my hardest to feed my children natural and organic foods. I try to shop the perimeter of the grocery store, and avoid the aisles as much as possible. That being said, I might have to reconsider that rule a bit, because there are some great organic packaged snack options available now on the shelves. One company, Plum Organics, is dedicated to providing moms with healthy feeding options for your little ones.
Why Plum Organics?
We believe that introducing babies to real food with delightful tastes and pure ingredients as early as possible, can create a foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating. Our foods are cooked just the right amount as compared to other processing methods used by conventional jarred baby food that expose foods to high temperatures and lengthy cooking times.

Our Experience
When the box of the organic super puffs arrived, it was my three year old who was very intrigued. He was instantly drawn to the colorful packaging as usual. In this case though, I wasn’t annoyed (hello Cars yogurt I am talking to you!), and wanted him to try all the different packages. I also put a handful on my one year old’s tray. She instantly ate them up. I like these as an “appetizer” for the kids as I am cooking dinner. They will sit patiently and eat the different colored stars, and I know they are getting a nutritious little course, but aren’t eating a ton to get too full for their actual meal. They are also a great on the go snack for when you want baby to be occupied and happy but not necessarily eat enough to spoil their appetite. I find this to be a huge challenge for parenting! Keeping appetites satisfied all day, but without spoiling
mealtime! Baby girl was so into them, you can see her doing her version of the sign for “more” in the picture to the left.
I am most impressed by the fact that these are certified organic, made from real fruits and veggies, and whole grains. I love that there are no artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. They are perfectly sized to help your little one learn how to self feed, and are suitable for babies and toddlers. I think my three year old actually enjoyed them more than my one year old. He really liked trying the different colors. I did try them myself, and honestly didn’t taste much of a difference between the different flavors. However, I find this to be a good thing, as to me it shows that there truly aren’t any added sugars or other flavorings to make it taste too sweet.
To Buy or Not to Buy
To Buy… As a mom who tries to steer clear of most packaged foods, this is one that I would buy. The BPA free container and all organic ingredients is a huge selling point for me. I love that my kids ask for all of the different colors, ensuring they are getting acquainted with a variety of tastes at a young age, in a fun way!
Or Not to Buy… There are a lot of “puff” type snacks out there for baby, however they are a great price for an organic snack, with a variety of natural flavors, so they are worth trying out on your little ones!
Shop! Plum Organics are available nationwide at Babies R Us for $2.99 for a 1.5 oz. container.

July 25, 2011We did the Gerber puffs with my son, who quickly grew tired of them. We use these with our daughter and even my son asks for “the green snacks, etc.” now. Love them!
