Inspired by a few key pieces, Elissa designed this retro military nursery for her son in a very unique space with fun architectural details.

Elissa: This nursery was for our first child, Oliver. We had a hard time deciding on what we wanted it to look like. We found a few pieces that inspired us. We found a really cool old military bench and a retro chandelier. We decided to combine the two looks… the theme: Retro military chic. We didn’t want it to be over the top “themey”. (Is that even a word?) [I vote yes. Spell check may disagree, but I'm with you - it's totally a word.  -Kate]

Elissa: We found some really cool retro old toys on eBay. The military bench, military medical box, and wire baskets were purchased at Loods5 in The Netherlands.

Elissa: One of my favorite things is the chalkboard. We created that from using chalkboard paint.

Thank you for sharing this very unique retro nursery, Elissa. And thanks to your beautiful dogs for being room models!

Modern Light Blue & White Girl’s Nursery

This modern girls nursery in light blue and white comes from Carly, the owner of Sticky Bellies.

Carly: When I thought about what my future daughter might be like, I envisioned a playful, laid back, unique girl and I wanted the room to reflect that personality. I also wanted it to have personal touches and not seem “generic” or too “matchy-matchy.” It started with the Dwell Charlotte bedding and just grew over time as I added new pieces to the design.  We moved into this home the day that I went into labor, so this room definitely wasn’t ready-to-go when we brought her home. I had purchased everything and painted, but other than that, I put it together over time. I’ve actually added a few more personal touches since taking these pictures, as I am constantly making changes to the room reflects who AVERY is!

Carly: I love the plexiglass mirror over the changing table. A great distraction during diaper changes that she STILL loves today, at 19 months!

Carly painted the room a light blue pulled from the crib bedding. One wall was custom painted with white semi-gloss paint in the same pattern as the bedding.

Carly: I really love all the pieces I found on etsy – the artwork that spells her name (so whimsical and ageless!), the mobile, the “You Are My Sunshine” print (our favorite song to sing to her), the ABC blocks with Amy Butler fabric on them that spell her name… all the personal touches.

Here are some sweet photos of Avery enjoying her bookshelves!

Thank you so much, Carly, for sharing Avery’s fabulously modern nursery.

Blast Off! Rocket Ship Theme Nursery

Even while exhausted and suffering from mega morning sickness Felicia (blogger at Go Graham Go!) put together an out of this world rocket themed nursery for her second son.

The starting point of the room was the blue and green rocket bedding. Felicia says, “I really loved the greens in this and because it was bright I decided upon a neutral wall color.  Of course, I also decided on the neutral wall color because we’ve painted Graham’s twice just to match new bed sets.”

Felicia: The personalized sign was a gift from a friend who had it made for me.  The pictures I purchased from Etsy and the clock is actually wall decals and wood.  The rocket is actually made from chalkboard paper that you can write on.

Thank you so much for sharing Davis’ room, Felicia! Here’s hoping you don’t have to repaint the walls any time soon.

Irish Baby Nursery

Kelly shared her son’s Thomas the Train Bedroom with us and now we’re excited to get a look at her youngest’s Irish themed nursery.

Kelly: When we were pregnant with our third we decided because we already had a boy and a girl we weren’t going to find out the sex of our third so coming up with a nursery theme became a challenge.  We are Irish and, when I was on a Irish history website one day, I stumbled upon Irish baby wall decor and inspiration hit.

Kelly: My Aunt Julie made the sweet shamrock baby quilt hanging on the crib. This was the starting point for everything else. My mom stenciled the shamrocks on the wall using a cute stencil from Stencil Planet.

Kelly: The pictures are Cooper’s first baby pictures and then made into cute framed art with special Irish Baby blessings. The wall mural was a custom mural created from the Irish Baby Blessing and made by It’s Written on the Wall.

Kelly: The cute Shamrock C on the wall was a plain unpainted “C”  that I painted white and stenciled with small shamrocks. The Irish wall plaque says “God Danced the Day You were Born.” The plaque, Irish cross, and picture frame were all purchased at the Irish Gift House in Phoenix.

Kelly: My husband hung the little shelves full of Irish knickknacks we received as shower gifts from friends and family. I found inexpensive white curtains on clearance at Ikea and used green ribbon that matches the shamrocks to tie them back.

Kelly: I purchased the matching the white duvet set on the day bed and we received two of the cute wee lads and lassies set as gifts. My mother purchased one here in Phoenix.  My mother-in-law purchased another set at Mrs. Murphy’s Irish store in Sioux Falls, SD. She had no idea we had received the same set from my mother. (Editor’s note: sounds like you were destined to have that set in your nursery!) My mother-in-law also made the cute matching pillows from leftover quilt material from my Aunt.

My two other children made Cooper the lamb and Irish teddy at Build a Bear as his welcome home presents because he was born just after St Patrick’s Day.

Thanks for sharing little Cooper’s beautiful Irish room. I love that it has so many thoughtful details. Time will only tell if all those hand painted shamrocks bring him the luck of the Irish!

Owl Themed Playroom

We have shared may different rooms with you as a part of the Real Reader Rooms series. Now it is time to share an impressive and adorable playroom. Can I please be three again and play here everyday?  This room is submitted by Amanda of La te Da Bebe, a very cute baby and children’s boutique.

Amanda: We recently did a playroom makeover that we are super proud of and our kids really enjoy.  We have 3 children; Eli (6), Bella Grace (4) and Ava (3)  and  we wanted to make a fun, creative functional playroom with an owl theme in a cheery gender neutral color scheme.

Amanda: I designed the cupcake stand that my husband built for our girls… it’s been a HUGE hit and the girls love the felt cupcakes that I have sewn and stocked the stand with. (I found the cupcake sewing patterns on etsy)

Amanda: I love that my husband also built our son’s play loft to give him a “boy” space of his own.

Amanda: The owl lamp goes well with the whimsical tree wall decal,  and canvas family photos from canvaspeople.com both add small personal details that are fun for the kids to enjoy.

This playroom is such a fun space. I know my kids would be playing in the kitchen and cupcake stand area all day long!

Pink and Black Girly Girl Nursery

by Kate on February 21st, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Children's Decor, Nurseries, Bedrooms & Playrooms

This nursery is shared as part of the Real Reader Rooms series sponsored by
The Land of Nod.

After having three sons, when Alison found out she was pregnant with a girl she knew she wanted a girly girl room for her baby girl.  She also knew, being an experienced mama, that she wanted a room that would be able to grow and transition with her little princess so she went with a sophisticated pink and black color scheme for the nursery.

Alison: Considering this was my 4th pregnancy, I knew I would be spending plenty of nights up with baby, and wanted a comfortable place to sleep in the baby’s room, hence the beautiful daybed.  Also this is perfect for when baby is ready to transition out of her crib.

Alison bought the crib from a friend who originally purchased it at a local upscale baby furniture store.

She did a great job of finding deals and steal on bedding and unique items, such as the crown over the crib, off of etsy and ebay.  The bassinett was hand made from fabric she purchased. It is a wonderful piece that Alison hopes can become an heirloom for the family.

The room has lots of personalized details, like the name pillow on the daybed.

What a fun girly space for little Katie. I am sure she will love this room for years to come!

Thomas the Train Bedroom

by Kate on February 20th, 2011  |  5 Comments  |  Children's Decor, Nurseries, Bedrooms & Playrooms

This bedroom is shared as part of the Real Reader Rooms series sponsored by
The Land of Nod.

Kelly combined clever artistic design with creative tricks to create a one of a kind Thomas the Train room for her son.

Kelly hired a muralist to paint the back wall of the bedroom with a roundhouse. (Aka the place where locomotives are “parked” for those of us not yet initiated in Thomas the Train lingo. Yes, I Googled it.) Her son chose his favorite 5 trains (Duck, Diesel 10, Thomas, Lady and Percy) to be painted in each bay. Thomas get’s the place of honor on the headboard.

The plain white ceiling fan was spruced up by being embossed with leftover wall border. The same border rings the room at the ceiling line.

The curtains and matching night-light were found at a local children’s specialty shop.

Thanks Kelly for sharing your room. Your guy surely sleeps better knowing all his friends are watching over him.
