International Desserts – Rice Krispies Treat Style (Recipes & $100 Giveaway)

A few months ago, I participated in a Rice Krispies challenge to create an after school snack to inspire conversation. It was fun, but it was nothing compared to the current challenge. Rice Krispies has asked me and 29 other bloggers to share a recipe for a Holiday Table Show-stopper. My sister and I had a blast and made no fewer than 7 batches of Rice Krispies Treats to create an awesome collection of Treats. I couldn’t pick a favorite so I’m sharing them all! So, without further ado here are the Traditional Desserts from Around the World – Rice Krispies Treats Style.

Rice Krispies Croquembouche

Croquembouche: French dessert pyramid of bite-size cream puffs coated and held in place with caramelized sugar.

Directions: Create Rice Krispies Treats Recipe as instructed on box, but assemble croquembouche rather than spread treats in pan.

  • 3 Tablespoons Margarine or Butter
  • 1 Package (10 oz, about 40) regular Marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 Cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
  1. Melt margarine or butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  2. Mix in Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
  3. Using ice cream scoop, divide treats into small portions. Let cool and set for a few moments and then shape portions into rounded balls.
  4. Form a small circle – about 8 inch diameter – to create the bottom layer of the Croquembouche. If desired, place a small bowl inside the circle to help maintain shape of pyramid.
  5. Lay the second level of Rice Krispies Treats balls slightly smaller than the first. Continue to make smaller circles until you reach the top of the Croquembouche pyramid.
  6. Place the final Rice Krispies Treat ball on top of the Croquembouche.
  7. If you wish, decorate with bows, small ornaments or other holiday details as you like.

Rice Krispies Bûche de Noël

Bûche de Noël, also known as a “Yule Log” is a traditional dessert served during the Christmas holidays in France, Belgium, Quebec, Lebanon and several other Christian-populated francophone countries as well as in the UK.

Directions: Create Rice Krispies Treats Recipe as instructed on box, but assemble Bûche de Noël rather than spread treats in pan.

  • 3 Tablespoons Margarine or Butter
  • 1 Package (10 oz, about 40) regular Marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 Cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 Container of Chocolate Frosting
  1. Melt margarine or butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  2. Mix in Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
  3. Line a 9 inch loaf pan with wax paper. Reserve a portion of Treats (about 1/8 of batch) to make top portion of Log.
  4. Place Treats in the loaf pan and round the top to form the shape of a log. Let set and cool completely.
  5. Meanwhile, flatten reserved Treats with rolling pin with wax paper on bottom and on top. Cut into rectangle shape and cover with frosting. Carefully roll. Cut desired width to go on top of Log. Save remaining Treats / Frosting swirl.
  6. Remove Rice Krispies Treat from loaf pan and place remaining Treats / Frosting swirl at one end. Cover entire log with frosting.
  7. Place Treats / Frosting swirl in desired position on top. Cover with frosting.

Rice Krispies Fruit Cake

And, while the next two recipes aren’t really international fare, they are traditional Christmas cookie designs. So let’s Rice Krispi-fy them! The butterscotch in the Gingerbread Treats helps to create the gingerbread color and also tastes delicious! This was my favorite Treat of the bunch. The white chocolate wasn’t too shabby, either.
