The Best Gift Ever!

The task for this post is to share the best gift I’ve ever given. I’m gonna pull out the mom card and say the best gift I’ve ever given is my wonderful son! Cheesy, right? But, he’s a December baby. Born December 19, 2006 two weeks early and in the nick of time to celebrate Christmas with my husband and me. At the time we were living in Germany and because he arrived early we totally weren’t prepared to be a family of 3 that Christmas. Clearly, we didn’t have presents for him, but what upset me even more is that we didn’t have any special Christmas clothes for him to wear. (I know! The horror!) I vividly remember, scouring the BX (store on base) for something – anything – for our teeny Christmas gift to wear. We ended up with the ugliest red striped “My First Christmas” one-piece you’ve ever seen. But I still have it and will keep it forever.

But, back to the topic at hand! I think some of the best gifts I’ve given include a Keurig to my mom for Christmas last year, photo calendars of the kids to the grandparents, some fun plane paraphernalia for my husband. And, I have to say, I’m rather fond of some of the stuff I’ve purchased for people this year but I can’t tell you about that yet!

Little Mommy Play All Day Baby Review

by Kate on December 15th, 2010  |  5 Comments  |  Reviews, Toys

For my son’s first birthday I was determined to get him a doll so I looked high and low for an affordable baby for him. I had a hard time finding one – that’s another post for another day! – but I ended up getting him a great little doll that he loved from the Little Mommy collection from Fisher Price. Three years later and my daughter has a Little Mommy doll, albeit a very high-tech one compared to the little thing her brother played with. She’s been playing mom to the Little Mommy Play All Day Baby, and this little bit is chatty!

About the Doll

Unlock all the adorable fun! As you move the Play All Day® baby, she reacts with 50+ sweet and silly phrases. The doll recognizes bouncing, flipping, flying like a “birdie,” and dancing — and then responds accordingly!

  • Wears a sweet pink top and denim shorts with matching sneaks
  • Play along with baby and see what she does next
  • Hours of interactive playtime for your daughter, ahem, child

Play All Day Doll

The Play All Day Doll is really a doll meant for “playing mom”. She’s a 14.5 inch doll that weighs a pound and a half, but feels a bit heavier than that. The doll is made primarily of plastic with cloth upper arms and upper legs. She’s really not cuddly, though she does say, “Hug me, mommy.”

The doll is recommended for ages 2 and older, and I think a lot of that is because the doll is really an interactive tool to encourage play. She’s not a passive doll, but an active toy. The doll says over 50 phrases that encourage various typical mom-baby activities like rocking, playing airplane, dancing and sleeping.

I have to admit, despite the fact that this doll is very talkative – perhaps even more than my son, which is really saying something – she’s rather endearing. Her little voice is so sweet and she’s hard to resist when she says “I like when you rock me, mommy.” But, if you want her to stop talking, you simply have to turn her off or she’ll chat your ear off.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… Because of the impressive interaction of the doll, I think the Play All Day Doll is best suited for older toddlers and preschool aged kids. If your daughter likes dolls, no doubt she’ll enjoy playing with this one. The talkative doll is really a good way to encourage play.

Or Not to Buy… My main complaint isn’t really with this doll specifically, but with the whole Little Mommy concept. How about some Little Daddy dolls for our boys to nurture and play house, too? Despite the fact that the doll calls him mommy, my son enjoys this too. Like I mentioned, it’s really not a cuddle, comfort, sleep with me doll but a toy.

Shop! Fisher Price’s Little Mommy collection, including the Play All Day Baby is $34.99. It’s available at the Mattel Shop and Amazon
.

Thanks to Mattel for providing a sample for the purpose of this review.
