Swanson’s Great Stuffing Debate: Recipe + $50 Giveaway

My husband and I are a military family, so we’ve moved around a lot. We’ve counted our Thanksgiving blessings with friends, family and restaurant staff across this nation. We’ve enjoyed the flavors of the Southwest, oysters and “gourmet” ingredients in dressings and stuffings over the years. When preparing our own dinner, I always come back to this corn bread dressing recipe that I found the first year we celebrated together. I’ve adapted it over the years, but it never fails to please. So when Swanson’s offered up The Great Stuffing Debate challenge, I accepted.

My Favorite Stuffing Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • 4 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3 1/2 cups herb stuffing
  • 32 oz Swanson’s chicken broth (1 box or approximately two cans; you can vary this amount depending upon your taste)
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped celery
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped mushrooms
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 Tablespoon poultry seasoning

You might notice in the photo that I have sage, thyme, marjoram, rosemary and nutmeg, but no “poultry seasoning.” Every year I think I have poultry seasoning in the cabinet and don’t. Every year I have to do an internet search for the ingredients and mix my own. If this happens to you (but it won’t because you are more organized than me), you can find the recipe for poultry seasoning here.

Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and then pour into a greased baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes prior to serving.

Yum!

The Great Stuffing Debate

I clearly have my favorite, but I know others have their favorite recipes as well. So does Swanson. That’s why they are sponsoring “The Great Stuffing Debate“. If you visit the site, you can find recipes, cast your vote, see dancing turkeys and view Swanson’s line of products. Personally, I loved the Thanksgiving spoof with Zandra and Sue. Check it out:

My favorite stuffing uses breadcrumbs, no nuts, sausage, broth (and mushrooms).
