Barnyard Bash Party Update & I Need Some Ideas

by Kate on November 7th, 2010 | 9 Comments » | In All Things Birthday, Life, Party Planning

Party planning is in full swing! You picked the theme and voted for what shirts my kids will wear, so here’s an update. I’ve ordered lots of goodies in the past several days and I can’t believe the party is four weeks from today. Here’s an update, and then I need some ideas and brainstorming help!

Invites

Around the Barn Invitations from Sweet Paper Lane. I was so excited to place the order that I forgot to include the date and time of the party. Yes, folks, I was so worried about being cute and clever on the invitation that I didn’t put, you know, the most important information. Awesome.

Thankfully I realized quickly, sent an email to Sweet Paper Lane and will get a proof in the next couple days.

Decor & Details

I ordered Party Circles, Happy Birthday Banner and blank rectangular cards to label the food from DoodleLulu. The DoodleLulu goodies are DIY, which is a little intimidating, but I’m excited. I even bought a Scallop Circle Punch that I’ll use to make the party circles.

In anticipation of lots of cupcakes I also ordered these adorable Farm Friends Cupcake Toppers and Red Gingham Cupcake Liners from The Birthday House.

And I was so excited to receive the perfect Farm Animal Blocks that will be party favors. They were made by our very own Amy and sold through tiny giraffe shop on Etsy. (The blocks for the party have animals on all sides, no letters.)

Food

It just so happens that my sister – who is a trained Le Cordon Bleu chef – will be in town during the party. I am so excited to have her help preparing food. Everything she makes is freaking delicious. She’s uber creative and I’m sure she’ll have some more great ideas, but so far, here’s what’s on the menu:

Neither my sister or I want to make the cake so I think I’ll order something. I’ve found a few designs I like online, so perhaps that’s the next thing you should vote on?

Any Ideas?

So, that’s where we stand. Things are coming together, but there are a couple areas that still need a little help. I’d love to hear your ideas for indoor party games or crafts, food ideas and the cake. Please leave a comment if you have any ideas, and let me know if you’d like to vote on the cake design next  – or if you have another party pick we can put up to a vote.

first off, mac n cheese cupcakes?! i can’t wait to see what that is all about!

as for the cake, i’m wondering if you could make the front of a barn much like your invitation. use a 9×9 square pan for the base, and then make another 9×9 cut in half for the roof. fondant is actually quite easy to use…you could find red, white and probably even black at the local party store. =) google it! haha

I love this cake and it sounds like what you are describing: http://www.wilton.com/idea/Farm-Fresh-Fun-Cake

But, seriously? I just can’t deal with making a cake. I will be so stressed with all the other details and prep that it’s not worth it to me to make it from scratch. I’m sure I could do it – not well – but it wouldn’t be perfect and I’d just be upset. Worth it for my peace of mind to pay someone to do it. I just need to figure out what I want to pay someone to do!

Indoor games…well, Pin the Tail on the Donkey is a no-brainer! Duck,Duck, Goose. Get some black and white Jelly Bellies or M&Ms in a jar and have the kids guess how many “spots on the cow.” Have some farm animal coloring sheets/books out with colors. That will be plenty!

We did a Barnyard Animal Birthday Party in September for my Boy/Girl Twins 2nd Birthday celebration. We had this at the party and it was a HIT! Not real big but big enough to keep the little ones (and some bigger ones) entertained all afternoon.

Sorry for the long link, I don’t know how to do tiny url. Anyway, we were able to find this on overstock for $125.00 shipped to our house!

Good luck with your party! It seems like it is going to be very special and a blast!
