September 19 – 25 is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Child Passenger Safety Week. During the week, parents and caregivers are encouraged to check your car seats to make sure they are install correctly and being used properly. I totally admit that I get a little lazy about adjusting the straps properly on both my kids – so this week is a welcome reminder about the importance of proper car seat use.
Did You Know?
- According to a NHTSA study, 3 out of 4 kids are not as secure in the car as they should be because their car seats are not being used correctly.
- Car crashes are the leading cause of death of children ages 3 to 14?
- An estimated 8,959 lives were saved by child restraints from 1975 to 2008.
- You can register your child seat and receive notification of defects and recalls.
Get Your Seat Checked!
September 25 is National Seat Check Saturday and you can search by your zip code to find a child safety seat inspection station near you. Certified technicians will inspect your child safety seat and show you how to correctly install and use it.
Connect! This week is important to focus on the importance of child safety, but you should connect with the NHTSA’s Child Passenger Safety on Facebook and Twitter for year round updates and news.
