Imagination Box Co: Creative Settings for Imaginary Play

by Kate on August 10th, 2010 | 2 Comments » | In Reviews, Toys

Imagination Box Co. was founded by artists and operates on sustainable, green principles. The company distributes 100% recyclable art toys since 2007. The toys are a blank canvas, er, cardboard, for your child to decorate and personalize a familiar setting (like a school house or barn) for imaginary play.

About Imagination Box Co.

Imagination Box Co. offers a series of cco-friendly paintable arts and crafts toys that will allow your child to ‘paint the town’! Designed with creativity and imagination in mind, we are sure that our quality cardboard toys will ignite your child’s imagination and their commitment to the future of our planet!

Castle Tower

The newest toy to join the Imagination Box Co. is the Castle Tower. The Castle Tower is easy to assemble, and once put together is a great setting for your little prince or princess to play. The assembled Tower is about 16.5 inches across and nearly 3 feet tall. The cardboard is white with outlines so your little one can color and decorate it in any way your child sees fit. The Castle Tower comes with 6 blank shields that you can also decorate and attach to the structure. It has several levels – the bottom level has ramps to enter, and a raised floor on the inside separates the Tower to create more play space. There are lots of windows and ways to access the inside to play.

It has been fun to use the toys we already have in the Castle Tower. My daughter has played with baby dolls in the house; my son’s little army figures have fortified the castle. The Castle Tower is not a play structure for the kids to get it, but more like a doll house – a place to use their imagination and act out stories. We really haven’t decorated the Castle Tower itself much – yet. To be honest, the kids have loved playing as it is so I feel like I’m banking an activity in my back pocket for a rainy day. We did use the included watercolors to paint some of the separate shields that you can glue to the Castle Tower.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… Imagination Box Co. play structures are familiar settings and will work well with toys you already have. I love that the structures are a blank canvas for your child – decorate it all at once, or little by little – and that is an activity and fun activity in and of itself. There’s no rules or instruction on how to play, just add imagination and it’s ready to go.

Or Not to Buy… Part of the reason I’ve waited to decorate the Castle Tower is because my kids aren’t particularly gifted in the art department. It’s true – and, yes, I said it. So, frankly, I don’t want them to scribble on it and I want to wait until they can really color it. If this is the case with your kids, you might wait a year or two before you get it.

Shop! The Castle Tower is $39 and comes with a set of watercolors. Other paintable and play settings are also available so make sure you check out the toys at Imagination Box Co.

Disclosure: Thanks to Imagination Box Co. for providing a sample product. Opinions are my own.
