Teacher Love

This week is teacher appreciation week and it got me thinking about end-of-the-year gifts for my kids’ teachers. I like to give them a little something special, along with a note and drawing from my child to show them how much we appreciate everything they do for us.

This year I decided that the perfect gift for our teachers are seed bombs from Visualingual. Each hand-screenprinted bag comes with 5 seed bombs that are loaded with seeds native to your area (think East Coast, West Coast, etc). All the recipient needs to do is plant the little ‘bombs’ and watch ‘em grow!

A few other teacher-perfect gifts I am sure to purchase in the future include the Wide Ruled Paper Towel from wonderthunder, and Personalized Teacher’s Stationary from ModernClassicsKids.

How will you show your teachers you appreciate them this year?

I just adore the Seed Bombs! So perfect. I wish they had them for my area for teachers.

The Wide-Ruled Towel is hysterical! Love it.

Speaking as a teacher, I can say that I really don’t want anything else “teacher-y!” You can only have so many knick-knacks laying around. Some nice ideas are gift cards for book stores or coffee shops, or something specific that you know that teacher personally enjoys or needs for the classroom.

    • For Christmas I purchased Caribou Coffee gift cards and some nice expo markers for our teachers. They seemed to love it and I got lovely thank you cards back.

      Thanks for the input!

I definitely like giving gifts that people can use (like gift certificates), but they feel so impersonal. These ideas are so affordable that it’s doable to give a fun, handmade gift together with a more practical (non-teachery) gift. And I don’t find these ideas to be knick-knacky, but I’m not a teacher so maybe I’m off base.

I love the towel. It actually has a great purpose and fun design. Too bad it is sold out! And the seed bombs are also so thoughtful and a great gift for anyone!

Our schools have the teachers fill out a “favorites” questionnaire. It is so helpful when coming up with gifts!

That teacher questionnaire is such a wonderful idea! We have a few teachers who *adore* Etsy, so picking out gifts was easy for them. I have also taken the gift card route in the past, and it is always much appreciated! It’s fun to buy them gift cards to local businesses like coffeeshops, etc.

This is so thoughtful of you, Kate. Even just a note is such a wonderful gift – I have kept every single one I’ve ever received from students over the years and sometimes when I wonder why on earth I do what I do, I open that box and remember. Of course, these gifts you’ve picked out are pretty sweet, too! :)

AS a former high school teacher, I can say anytime I would receive ANYTHING from a student, it was so appreciated! High school parents aren’t as consistent as elementary parents with gifts. Understandably so because the kids have 6 times as many teachers. But a nice note or email goes a long way.
