Everything Spring Book Review + Giveaway (Closed)

I can’t believe it’s already May! We are definitely well into spring, and it shows here in Florida. The grass is greener, the trees are fuller and the smell of flowers surround us as we explore and play outside. Everything Spring, a book from National Geographic Kids Picture the Season series, is a sweet and beautiful book to share with your little ones and celebrate the season.

In Jill Esbaum’s beautifully photographed picture book, young children can see, hear, and feel the warmth of springtime by reading and learning all about chicks, bunnies, and the other baby animals that come out to play in springtime.

Celebrate Spring

The best part of Everything Spring is hands-down the stunning photography throughout, which is not surprisingly that the book is part of a National Geographic series. The images of sweet little chicks, baby deer and growing tadpoles are beautiful. And they are the perfect talking point when reading the book with little ones. The prose of the book is a bit over my children’s head (“Spring tiptoes in, stirring up earthy smells, coaxing color from the winter-brown woods.”), but there’s no misunderstanding the image of baby ducklings swimming behind their mother. There are some fun auditory words interspersed throughout the book, though, that engage \and entertain my kids. For example, the ducklings “Splish-Splosh!”, the pigs “SQUEET” and the chicks “PEEP!”

At 14 pages, Everything Spring is a short and sweet 8 by 10 inch softback book. It’s geared for children ages 4 to 8. The older kids will certainly get more out of the words but younger kids will enjoy the pictures. And you can easily interpret and explore the book in whatever way is appropriate for your kiddos. My son likes to talk about what the animals are doing (“Why, mama?”) and my daughter likes to make the animal sounds.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… Everything Spring is an affordable addition to your kid’s library. It’s worth the $6 price tag for the photographs alone.

Or Not to Buy… It’s hard to find fault in a beautiful book for kids that celebrates spring. It’s kind of like saying you don’t like spring. (And I do.)
