Pennies for Penny

As much as I love the internet for the ability to connect with people and friends and moms, sometimes I find it terribly depressing. I read stories of loss and it’s almost too much. The latest example? Layla Grace passed away on Tuesday, just days after the awesome auction to raise money to help pay for her treatment.

Sadly, I have another story to share with you. My friend Rhea (from Mommy 23 Monkeys) has a young family member who only weeks ago was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma – the same form of cancer as Layla Grace. Today, Rhea’s family is doing everything they can to spread the word about Penny, a little girl with a big fight on her hands.

Thanks, everyone. If nothing else, let this be a reminder to hug your little ones extra tight today.

Kate, this is so heartbreaking and certainly not what you ever expect to face as the parent of a young child. We will keep Penny, Rhea, and the rest of the family in our thoughts as they move through this.

I’m so sad to hear about Layla Grace. You’re very right that the internet does expose us to sadness and grief that we might not otherwise hear about. At the same time, such stories remind us to be thankful for our healthy children and to not take for granted our time with them. Thanks, Kate, for posting Penny and Layla’s stories on your blog.
