Why is it impossible to get a good boy’s hair cut? We’ve taken our son to every hair cutting option in town – from the kiddie hair cut place to the barber on base to an adult hair stylist. And without fail, every single time within a couple hours we realize the hair is uneven, and all kids of jacked up. It’s so frustrating. Seriously, why is it impossible to get a good young boy’s hair cut?
We had Preschool Boy’s hair cut today. Needless to say, it didn’t go well. It kind of looked cute. Until you looked closely and noticed it was uneven in the front, longer on one side and completely uneven in the back. From one angle he looked straight out of the show The Monkeys. Sad.
So, my husband suggested (again) that we just shave my son’s hair. Avoid the drama of an actual hair style involving scissors and shaping and just shave it. And, for reasons that currently escape me, I agreed. Yes, we shaved my son’s hair.
Before I show you the pictures, let’s take a brief look at what once was.

And now….

March 2010
I made a video to mark the occasion. And, I apologize, there are some technical issues and the sound is a little off. It makes all of us sound like chipmunks. I should also apologize to my son because I’m sure my shock at the (lack of) length of his hair was more traumatizing than the actual hair cut itself.
So, please, take pity on me and tell me it’s not that bad.

March 8, 2010We just shaved off my sons hair also. You can’t get a good hair cut and it is so much easier to deal with. I actually like his hair better short.

March 8, 2010He’s adorable! We cut my son’s hair like that all the time.
It’s really great in the summer when they get all hot and sweaty. Plus it’s a great haircut you can do yourself and save money!
I Love it!

March 8, 2010Aww, it’s really not bad. He looks so cute. It is hard to get a good little boys cut. I cringe every time I take my son in b/c I always get something different. We shaved my sons head the first time when he was about the same age as yours and it really made it so much easier. It’s especially great for summer when it gets soooo hot. We may do it again this summer if he doesn’t mind…he’s 7 now so he has more of an opinion. And if you really don’t like the look I’m sure it will grow back really fast. My son’s always does! Have a great day!

March 8, 2010I think it is really cute!

March 8, 2010It is adorable! My son looks like yours in the before pic but shaggier. He refuses to even sit still for a haircut. I think we will have to buzz it when it gets warmer otherwise he will be a sweaty kid!

March 8, 2010It looks fine , I shaved my boys hair last summer too. It is so much easier ! I’m going to keep doing it , their hair grows pretty slow so haven’t had to do it again yet but probably will when it warms up

March 8, 2010I love it!! I usually give my son a shaved haircut like that when summer rolls around. He is already hot natured (has his ceiling fan on in the winter with just underwear & a sheet!) so I think it helps keep him cooler. Not to mention how easy it is to take care of.

March 8, 2010Aww it’s all gone! Hey, atleast he’s ready for warmer weather!
But the good news is, hair grows back really fast. Esp in men/boys!

March 8, 2010Toddler Boy looks adorable. I understand your hesitation however… My boys are grown up now but had beautiful blonde curls as your son did and now they wear it “buzzed”. I’m used to it now but it was a little shocking at first. He’s a cutie and no matter what hair cut he is adorable and that sweet smile is to die for! take care

March 8, 2010Kate! Ok.. it looks absolutely adorable.. but I must tell you that I started crying when he started shaving it off! Whew! I almost had to turn off the video!
What was that barber doing though? Trying to stack his hair in the back! LOL! It is really hard to get a good boys hair cut for sure. Graham makes it even worse because he squirms so much. Ugh.
Could you hear the near tears in my weird chipmunk voice? Because I assure you I was close. And, then seeing that pile of gorgeous hair… I can’t think about it.
It’s still a total shock to see him with no hair. I do hope it grows back quickly!
