joovy zoom 360 strollerWhether you’re working on a new year’s resolution to get fit or thinking about spending time outdoors this spring, a jogging stroller might be high on your list of must have products. Jogging with the Zoom 360

You may know, my husband is the jogger in our house, so he has done the majority of the jogging with the Zoom 360. He quickly realized it’s very different to run with an actually jogging stroller – in a good way! The large tires together with an insanely good suspension system make the ride smooth and, in turn, the run smooth. His only real issue is that the handle height is not adjustable. He’d like the handle a little taller, but it is perfect for me (which, of course is the beauty of an adjustable handle).

Strolling with the Zoom

The Zoom 360 is very easy to push and has great maneuverability, though I did notice its size immediately. It’s a pretty long stroller so it took a little getting used to. For daily use, I love how easily and compactly the stroller folds. It does take two hands to fold and unfold the stroller but it’s really simple and quick. Another feature that makes the Zoom easy to use is the five-point harness which is completely adjustable from the front of the stroller with almost no effort.

The large seat with two mesh pockets for toys, snacks or cups is great for kids. I’ve seriously never seen such a generously sized stroller seat and it also has tremendous leg room and seat height. Adding to the comfort factor for kids is the enormous sunshade and the adjustable seat position. It reclines nearly flat and doesn’t have set positions so it’s fully adjustable which is nice. I do find the seat a bit difficult to adjust. It’s easy, in theory, as you just lift a tab and push the seat down or pull on the d-ring to raise the seat. It’s just a little stiff and hard to move but hopefully that will improve with more use. For parent’s comfort, there is an optional neoprene cup holder with room for two cups and a small zippered pouch for keys and other small items.

To Buy or Not to Buy

To Buy… The Zoom 360 is a great option for a do everything stroller. It has great suspension, large wheels and a huge sunshade for jogging. The front wheel swivels for tremendous day to day maneuverability, a good size basket, as well as an adjustable recline and large seat for comfort. Because the large seat accommodates children up to 75 pounds and is very large you can plan to use this stroller for literally years and years. For the price, I think it’s a good buy for a versatile jogging stroller

Or Not to Buy… The Zoom 360 main weakness is due to the length and width for daily functionality. It’s not an issue when jogging or walking outdoors, but the length can be problematic in other uses like shopping and crowded areas. I’d also love to see the handle height be adjustable.

joovy logoShop! The Joovy Zoom 360 is available in two colors (black and blue). It retails for $269 but is currently on sale at Joovy.com for $199.

Check back in the next couple weeks for a follow-up review to share some more details about the Zoom 360. Please let me know in the comments if you have any particular questions or concerns about the stroller and I’ll make sure to answer them in the next post.

Cute Shop Alert: Whirly Girlz Tutus

by Kate on February 27th, 2010  |  5 Comments  |  Shopping

whirly girlz tutusA girl can never have too many tutus, but not all are created equal. When shopping for the ultimate in girlyness (tutus), I look sweet colors, nice details and finishing and lots of fluff. Whirly Girlz Tutus is everything you’d expect and more, with designs featuring unique details and embellishments on beautiful handmade tutus.

About Whirly Girlz, from the Designer, Allison

My philosophy is that every girl should whirl, twirl and laugh their way through life so why not in a Whirly Girlz Tutu?

All of our tutus are handmade and use approximately seventy five yards of high quality, made in the USA tulle. The tulle is tightly hand tied around a durable elastic band. Most of our products include unique embellishments such as flowers, korker ribbons, rhinestones, bows and other interesting embellishments. We pride ourselves on using quality materials and creating lasting tutus that are truly unique and upscale.

Whirly Girlz Designs

whirly girlz princess tutuThe main difference I see between Whirly Girlz Tutus and the average tutu is the fun, whimsical details and embellishments. For example, the Pretty as a Princess Tutu has a ribbon and flower at the waistband to add some flair to the shades of pink tulle. I really like the way the varying shades are tulle add depth and interest to the body of the tutu. And, there’s lots of body with 70 yards of tulle in each tutu!

I think my favorite Whirly Girlz tutu is the Cowgirl Kate Tutu (and not just because it share’s my name). I love the brown and blue color combination because the colors look great together but also because its not the colors you expect to see in a girl’s tutu. But, don’t worry, this this brown tutu is still full of girlyness. The chocolate brown Gerber daisy and aqua blue korker ribbons definitely add Whirly Girlz “oomph and flair.”

Another top pick is the Preppy Girl Tutu with a Burberry-esque ribbon waistband. The tutu has brown, black, white, and red tulle for a tutu that will surely turn heads.

Design Your Own Tutu

If you don’t see just what you’re looking for, or you have a particular color scheme in mind, you can Design Your Own Tutu at Whirly Girlz. First, you pick the length (from 8 to 24(!) inches).  Next you select up to 4 tulle colors from over 40 choices including solid and glimmer options.  Finally, add flowers, bows or ribbon embellisments and even rhinestones to make a special tutu.

Shop! Whirly Girlz Tutus prices start at $32 and are available in four sizes from Zero (0 – 1 year old) to Three (7 – 10 years old). You can customize existing tutu designs and even design your own tutu.

Do You Shop Online? No, Seriously. Do You?

by Kate on February 25th, 2010  |  5 Comments  |  Life, Shopping

I had this encounter the other day that was somewhat shocking to me as a seasoned online shopper. Apparently, in 2010, some people do not shop online. The conversation I had went something like this:

Other Mom at Preschool: I love your son’s shoes! Where did you get them?

Me: They’re Dinosoles. I got them online -

Other Mom (rolling her eyes): I knew you were going to say that. Ugh. I don’t do that.

Me: Um, errr, it’s just dinosoles.com.

All the while thinking to myself: Of course I bought them online. Is there any other way?

stockvault_9853_20080130So, her reaction, while not rude or anything was surprising. Do people really NOT shop online? Even my 85 year old grandmother does a lot of her Christmas shopping online. And, when she needs help, she pays my mom to order things for her. Online.

Seriously, the internet is the first place I look when I’m shopping for something. In part because we live in the middle of almost nowhere and there aren’t many original options around here. In part because its always open and a hell of a lot more convenient to pop on the computer than to pack up the two kids and drag them around the mall or stores in the stroller. And, in part, because I love shopping on the internet and it makes me happy.

Obviously you are a somewhat computer savvy person. You are, after all, reading this blog. But, I’m curious. Do YOU buy things online? Do you do “window shop” online and check things out then buy in person?

Jeff Corwin Interview

To help spread the word about the awesome Lunchables giveaway, I had the opportunity to speak with Animal Planet’s Jeff Corwin. He was very gracious and so fun to chat with. He developed a love of animals early in his life and encourages parents to provide opportunities to their kids so they can find their passion. When asked how parents can engage their children, he said  “Explore your own back yard!”

Check out the interview, which includes some questions readers of The Shopping Mama suggested on Facebook.

Wordless Wednesday

by Kate on February 23rd, 2010  |  5 Comments  |  Weekly Features, Wordless Wednesday

I used this picture on Day 54 of the 365 Days of Children’s Clothes, but it’s so cute that it’s worth repeating. They each had a little input in their outfits – she insisted on wearing a hat, and he changed from weather-appropriate pants to shorts. (And, the shorts look fab with navy socks, don’t they?)

Day 54

And here are a couple cute pictures that didn’t make the 365 cut, but I love them nonetheless.

I look forward to seeing your photos.
