Our Honda is a Lemon

by Kate on November 29th, 2009 | 21 Comments » | In Life

2007_Honda_Accord_LemonRemember how I posted about how our Honda Accord engine overheated and basically our had to be rebuilt? Well, surprise, surprise, the car is back in the shop. Lovely. Not.

This time, we noticed the heater not working (ironic since the engine overheating is what caused all this nonsense) and when we took it to the shop they noticed residue throughout the engine compartment. So, they’ve had our car all weekend and don’t know how long it will take to fix it. Sigh.  We knew we were in for trouble when rather than telling us what is wrong with our car they said they were getting us a rental. (And, the funny part about that is our Honda-provided rental car is a Toyota Camry. Ha.)

So, clearly our car is a LEMON. As I suspected and feared, the initial MAJOR manufacturing defect has wreaked havoc on the entire engine and I’m no car expert but I”m pretty sure that’s an important part of any automobile.

Here we are, two years and 18,000 miles after we bought a brand new car and we need to get another new car. We are not so much in a position to buy a car. We’re hoping Honda will do the right thing and help resolve this situation, but I’m not really keen on rewarding this crappy experience by buying another Honda.

We’re thinking about a Chevy Traverse. Does anyone have any experience with a Traverse? If we decide to get another sedan, do you have any recommendations?

So sorry you’re still having problems.. I’ve actually had my car in the shop within the first 2 months of owning for a whole strut assembely.. yes I have a Honda as well.
But I’m just glad I don’t own one of the Toyotas that had the major recall.
I think cars are being mass produced so that the end result is sloppy but “acceptable” ..
I’m not an expert just my honest opinion. I have no experience with Chevy but I do know Honda & Toyota are the “best” if you aren’t buying a BMW, Mercedes.

Oh, that super sucks! I am so sorry – car trouble is the WORST! Seriously it sends me into hysterics when my car acts up because I can’t fix it and never know if I am being taken advantage of or not. So I feel your frustration.

That’s sad to hear about a Honda too. I traded my Honda in for an Explorer (now called the Exploder) and I have wished for my Honda back ever since. My next car WILL be a Honda… I say give them another chance. If I could get my Prelude back (yes, it was my sexy single woman car, lol)- I would in a heartbeat!

I fear this every time we need a new car. Honda has such a good reputation too, I hope they step up and help you out.

Wow. I am so surprised to hear about your Honda being a lemon as Japanese cars are usually pretty good.

Sorry you are having to deal with that. Not having reliable transportation is beyond stressful!

Ugh. I am so sorry about this. I wouldn’t drive a Toyota either with what’s going on with their accelerator problems. Either you get a car that wont go with your Honda or a car that wont stop with Toyota. Check out Carmax for some deals maybe? Or wait til the end of the year to see if dealerships are making great deals, although Cash for Clunkers might have screwed any last minute deals. Sigh. Wishing you the best and I hope a good remedy comes around.

Wow! Sorry about your bad luck! I don’t know anything about the traverse, but we have had a couple of Chevy vehicles and have been overall pleased with them. Good Luck!

I’m just so frustrated and sad. We saved money for a while and paid cash for that car so we currently don’t have a car payment. We planned on driving that forever, but now we need to buy a new car and will take on a new monthly bill we weren’t prepared for. UGH!

We sent a fax to Honda Customer Service today so we’ll see if they respond.

GAH! What a pain in the butt! I’m so sorry you are having to deal with crap like this. I haven’t had any experience with a Traverse but I do own a Chevy and have always been impressed with them. Let us know how this turns out hun!

Wow. I just sold our really 94 Accord with 220000 miles on it. Your situation is insane and it is clearly a lemon. Come on Honda! Make it right!!!

That sucks! Honda’s are supposed to be the reliable cars! My parents are happy with the Toyota Camry & Corolla (they have 1 of ea). I’m kinda curious about the Traverse, myself. They are so nice looking!
