Remember how I posted about how our Honda Accord engine overheated and basically our had to be rebuilt? Well, surprise, surprise, the car is back in the shop. Lovely. Not.
This time, we noticed the heater not working (ironic since the engine overheating is what caused all this nonsense) and when we took it to the shop they noticed residue throughout the engine compartment. So, they’ve had our car all weekend and don’t know how long it will take to fix it. Sigh. We knew we were in for trouble when rather than telling us what is wrong with our car they said they were getting us a rental. (And, the funny part about that is our Honda-provided rental car is a Toyota Camry. Ha.)
So, clearly our car is a LEMON. As I suspected and feared, the initial MAJOR manufacturing defect has wreaked havoc on the entire engine and I’m no car expert but I”m pretty sure that’s an important part of any automobile.
Here we are, two years and 18,000 miles after we bought a brand new car and we need to get another new car. We are not so much in a position to buy a car. We’re hoping Honda will do the right thing and help resolve this situation, but I’m not really keen on rewarding this crappy experience by buying another Honda.
We’re thinking about a Chevy Traverse. Does anyone have any experience with a Traverse? If we decide to get another sedan, do you have any recommendations?

November 30, 2009Oh NO! I had a jeep that was a lemon…what an ordeal! Had to rebuild a “piston stem” along with a slew of other random issues. I wondered if that was like replacing the “muffler bearings”?!?

November 30, 2009My hubby had a Dodge Ram and within the first 6 months it had been in the shop 4 months out of the 6 months. They finally bought it back as a lemon, but it took awhile. Just keep fighting with them and don’t give in.

November 30, 2009Kate, that’s what’s so weird and annoying about this situation. We bought a Honda specifically for their reliability, thinking we’d have a car for years. And by years I mean more than 2.

December 1, 2009I had a Honda Civic for 6 years and never had a single problem so I’m sorry to hear about your Accord. I drive a Subaru Outback now and LOVE it! We got a fabulous deal since we bought it used. It was one year old and had been previously owned by a rental car company. We have had no problems and are planning to buy another Subaru when it’s time. Good luck to you! Let us know what you decide on

December 1, 2009That is really frustrating. But I have to say that I will stick by Honda because of their amazing safety features. We were in an accident a week ago in our Honda and my entire family walked away from the crash. I hope your situation gets resolved, really soon.

December 1, 2009What a bummer. We’ve got a CRV 2+ yrs old no problems yet.

December 2, 2009I am so sorry about the many problems you are having with your car. Sucks I know! I had a lemon once too and it was ALWAYS being worked on when I needed it so badly

December 2, 2009I would suggest calling the Honda Customer Service number they are in Cali. I used to work there–plead your case, hopefully they can help you in some way. There is a District Parts and Service Manager for EVERY dealer and yours should be able to help you find a reasonable resolution to it all! EMail me!

December 3, 2009Kate, I am so sorry about your Honda issues, it really sucks!!! I have had two hondas and loved them both. I just traded in my accord for a Traverse and so far am pleased, but it has been less than a month. Best of luck! Call Honda and keep asking to speak with managers until you find someone that can help. Also, a friend of mine had a lemon issue with another car company and she would sit in the dealership and talk to other customers about her experience until the sales manager would deal with her.
