My Child ID Review

This is a review I’m really honored to share with you.  It’s not your run of the mill Shopping Mama product, but it is important to all parents. The My Child ID is a comprehensive digital child identification device that stores your family’s vital information. This is one of those things you never, ever want to use. But, heaven forbid you find yourself in a crisis situation when you need it and you’ll be so happy to have it. Developed by AmberAlert.com, a technology company dedicated to improving the efficiency of issuing and responding to AMBER alerts, the My Child ID is a must have product for all parents.

About My Child ID

Store and Organize Vital Information

My Child ID is a storage device that holds up to 128 MB of information. It connects to your computer and you create profiles for each of your children. The software prompts you to upload and input detailed information so you can gather all the information that may be critical to law enforcement, including:

• Digital Photos – viewable on an LCD digital photo display
• Vital Statistics – height, weight, eye and hair color, blood type, etc.
• Emergency Contact Information
• Medical Information – medication, allergies, physicians, pharmacies, etc.
• Contact Information – family, friends, teachers, baby sitters, etc

Easy to Use

The My Child ID is very easy to use and, not surprisingly, the hardest part is collecting the necessary phone numbers and information to include. Its compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux computer systems and comes with user-friendly software that guides and prompts you for necessary data. The cute little elephant-shaped device attaches to the computer with a USB cord-thingy (technical term). I uploaded a few recent photos of each of my children (that you can see on the LCD screen) and all the requested medical and contact information. I really appreciate that the device is small – it fits in the palm of my hand – and has a loop so you can attach it to your key chain or purse.

To Buy Or Not To Buy?

To Buy… Without a doubt. My Child ID is fully integrated with the AmberAlert.com Law Enforcement Alerting Portal which is used by states to issue AMBER Alerts. If you ever need to use this, you will be forever grateful you spent the $40. And, if you’re lucky enough to never need it, it does provide some peace of mind.
