Alone

I’m writing this from a hotel room in Denver. And, the crazy part? I’m all by myself. No kids, no husband. Just me. I am here with a few other bloggers as part of the ShopAtHome.com Blogger Advisory Board. It’s been a trip a month in the making – one I’ve been looking forward to and dreading at the same time.

I’m excited to be working with ShopAtHome.com. With all the incredibly talented bloggers out there I’m still not sure why they picked little ol’ me to be a part of this new project, but I am, more than anything, honored. Tomorrow the other bloggers and I will spend the day at the ShopAtHome.com office to learn more about the company and hopefully contribute some insight from my point of view as a shopping mama.

I’ve been looking forward to the business part of this trip tomorrow, but I’ve also been looking forward to traveling and spending some time alone. Do you know how easy it is to maneuver an airport without a kid? It’s a piece of cake! And, I read a magazine and I dozed off on the plane. How decadent.

On the other hand, I left my kids. Both of them.

I’ve spent time away from my son before and he’s old enough to understand. He knows when I leave that I will come back. (And, my husband travels a lot so it’s not all that unusual to him.) But, my sweet daughter. It’s the first time I’ve spent more than a few hours away from Baby Girl and my heart aches for her. She’s still breastfeeding and obviously that’s something only I can do for her. I’ve been pumping like a champ and left quite the stockpile of milk, and luckily she did really well taking a bottle today.

I am going to make the most of my alone time and enjoy a very restful, uninterrupted night of sleep. But, I will really appreciate (and almost enjoy) the next night at home when Baby Girl wakes me early in the morning to breastfeed and Toddler Boy bounds into our bed way too early to start the day.

Its chilly in Denver right now but should warm up today! If you have time today, shop around the Cherry Creek area or walk around downtown near Larimer! Enjoy your day to yourself!

Kate, congrats on being chosen to participate! I am sure you will learn alot and have some great perspective to offer them as well!

Enjoy your time "alone" and I am sure your kids miss you as much as you miss them! I still remember leaving my 6 week old (who was breast-feeding, too) to go on a business trip. I cried, he hardly noticed! :)

I know it's tough to be away from small children, but you need time for you. Enjoy the peace, quiet, the "me" time. You deserve it! (and the kids and husband will appreciate you more when you get home!)

I totally know what you mean. I left my 3 boys behind with their dad when I went to the General Mills Eat and Greet Event. I had a good time, but was anxious to return home to my little ones!

    Have a great time! :)

They are in good hands. Drink wine, sleep late, go to dinner. Have fun!
