My husband noticed the car was overheating so we called the Honda dealer and they told us to bring it in. No big deal, right? Probably needs some coolant, we thought. We dropped it off, called 30 minutes later to hear that our engine “ate itself.” Excuse me?
Um, isn’t that why we bought a freaking Honda? To avoid this crap. Seriously? Seriously!
Turns out there was some massive combustion leak thing that led to overheating and our engine block melting. Or something like that. They think. Whatever.
All I know is we bought a Honda because they are supposed to last forever. 18,000 miles is not forever. It’s nothing.
Thanks for nothing, Honda! So glad we got the one lemon on the tree.

September 19, 2009I have owned 2, and I was SO upset to total out the first one when it was completely repairable (just more expensive to fix than it was worth). The 2nd was a dream until we procreated ourselves out of a sedan (LMAO @ myself). Having worked for Honda previously, your car is under warranty and it'll be handled, it will. I am shocked at what happened and would demand they investigate how it happened so that you're certain it won't happen again with your new car (if it comes to that).
*hugs*

September 19, 2009My dh and I both just got new 2009 Honda's. My Civic has already been in the shop. It needed a whole new strut assembly within the first two months. I just feel like they aren't built like they use to be. The parts are a lot cheaper
Hope they fix it with no problems! That shouldn't happen, and I've never heard of such a thing especially in a 2yr old car.

September 19, 2009And we were looking at Hondas for the same reason. Guess we'll stick to Nissan and Toyota.

September 19, 2009That is terrible!

September 19, 2009Nissan isn't the greatest either. My MIL's Nissan Sentra has been in for service more times than I can count. As well as my SIL's (Same car) MIL has about 10k miles and they are looking into another car
not to mention the horrible egg smell after a few months coming from the air/heater.

September 19, 2009I think my husband and I are still in shock. It's just not what you expect from any 2 year old car with less than 20k miles. It's ridiculous!
And the more I think about it the more I worry that if they replace the ENTIRE ENGINE the car will never be the same. It's going to be a pieced together puzzle and not the new car we thought we were buying.
I feel greedy but I think they should get us a new car, you know?

September 19, 2009Courtney, that sucks your cars have already been in the shop! What in the world?
I drove a Honday in high school and college and it survived well into the 200k range. I loved *that* car which is part of the reason we bought another Honda. :sigh:

September 19, 2009Yeah Honda's are amazing cars. But not every car is built the same. A bunch of my friends actually have the civic with no problems. There's always that odd one out, you know? I think your car will be fine. I trust Honda 100%. If there's a problem they make sure they fix it. They don't give you a run around.
