My husband noticed the car was overheating so we called the Honda dealer and they told us to bring it in. No big deal, right? Probably needs some coolant, we thought. We dropped it off, called 30 minutes later to hear that our engine “ate itself.” Excuse me?
Um, isn’t that why we bought a freaking Honda? To avoid this crap. Seriously? Seriously!
Turns out there was some massive combustion leak thing that led to overheating and our engine block melting. Or something like that. They think. Whatever.
All I know is we bought a Honda because they are supposed to last forever. 18,000 miles is not forever. It’s nothing.
Thanks for nothing, Honda! So glad we got the one lemon on the tree.

September 19, 2009We have two Hondas and just sold our 2000 model one this past year only because it was a 2 door. It had 140k on it and still drove like it was new. There was a recall on the transmission years back but Honda fixed it no problem. We always did the maintenance as suggested and do on our newer Hondas as well. Your car should be under warranty right? They will fix it up good as new… you'll have all new parts in there so it should be just fine. Honda is really good on customer service. Sorry that happened to you girl!

September 19, 2009Honda has had a great reputation for years. This incident doesn't help that reputation. Just think if the engine had died on the way to Disneyworld. I agree with the Shopping Mama…Honda needs to fess up and get you a brand new vehicle. A lemon is a lemon, and fixing it will still leave you with a lemon.

September 19, 2009I doubt Honda would give a new Vehicle. Replacing the engine is "suitable" to them. It's like when you get a warranty on your computer. They fix EVERYTHING before they replace it. If it happens again or something goes wrong then I can see it deeming necessary but I can't see them replacing it with a "new" vehicle. Maybe another 2007 but in that case who knows what the condition would be?.. My sister's boyfriend builds cars from scratch, some of the best cars I've seen. A factory put her car together now she has a team. Anything goes wrong it's their fault. Not hers.

September 19, 2009That's brutal. I've got a 2001 Honda Civic that I love to bits – it's cost very little to keep it running over the years and is great on gas – I'm so sorry to hear your bad experience!

September 19, 2009Ok…I normally don't use this type of "language": But that sucks!
We have a Honda Odyssey, a Honda Civic, and a Toyota Tundra. All 3 cars are in WONDERFUL condition (years: 2006, 2009, 2001 [respectively]) We could not be more pleased with our vehicles, and we owe that to the fact that we only buy Honda/Toyota. We have had a few Dodges in the past that actually did turn out to be true lemons! So, it really does happen! Don't give up on Honda! They really do make FABULOUS cars.

September 21, 2009Sorry about your car. I think all makers have a car here or there which behaves badly. I have a 1993 (!!!) Dodge Caravan which is the best, most reliable car I have ever owned. My kids use it now. I had a Nissan Sentra die in less than 18 months, too.
I hope Honda does what they should to get you back on the road safe and happy.
