Wordless Wednesday: Traveling Buddy

by Kate on September 16th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

A sweet photo of my little travel buddy! We had a great time in Vegas, but…She was very happy to see her brother when we got home. He, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to share her enthusiasm.
I look forward to checking out your pictures!

Tell me! What do you think? What would you like to see me blog about throughout the day? Any product you’re dying to see?

Vegas… Here We Come!

by Kate on September 12th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Blogging
I am so excited and utterly anxious that I might explode. I am in the midst of last minute packing for a trip to Las Vegas. But this isn’t any typical Vegas trip… I’m heading to the ABC Kids Expo!

The ABC Kids Expo is the premier juvenile products specialty show in the nation. With more than 800 exhibitors in over one million square feet of exhibit space, it is now one of the fastest growing trade shows in the nation.

I am giddy about the opportunity to meet some great people I’ve worked with, discover new companies and products and learn more about my favorites. During my time in Vegas I’ll update the blog with my favorite finds but make sure you follow me on Twitter for even more updates.

Baby Girl will be with me the whole time in a beautiful BabyHAWK carrier, but wish me luck keeping her happy the whole weekend. We will definitely be seeing the Expo on her schedule!

Have a great weekend!

September 11

by Kate on September 11th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
I still catch my breath when I see a digital clock that reads 9:11. For weeks leading up to today, I feel weird making plans for September 11. It feels unnatural to mention the date like it’s any other day. It’s not and never will be.

I know I’ll never, ever forget where I was on September 11, 2001. I’ll never forget the overwhelming fear and unease when I realized the planes hit the towers and then the Pentagon on purpose. I’ll never forget the overwhelming sadness, shock and horror I felt when I first saw the images of the attack on television. I still get a pit in my stomach thinking about it.

On July 15, 2001 I moved from New York City after spending two amazing years there. But I never feel like more of a New Yorker than I do every year on this day.

aden + anais Hooded Towel and Washcloth Review

by Kate on September 11th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Reviews

I’ve been familiar with the company aden + anais and its signature product – the muslin wrap – for months. But, until recently I didn’t know aden + anais also offers products perfect for older kiddos, too.

About aden + anais

We’re Aussie mothers who moved from Australia to the United States in 1996. In preparation for the arrival of our children, Aden and Anais, we went in search of muslin wraps like the ones we have back home, a staple with Australian mothers. …None of the materials the other wraps used were the same soft, breathable muslin cotton we were used to in Australia. So, we decided to make our own. We also discovered that the only washcloths we could find were too harsh on our new babies’ skin. We decided that muslin would be the ideal fabric to use on the delicate skin of our newborns at bath time, and so we also produced a line of soft cotton towels and muslin washcloths.

The Hooded Towel and Muslin Washcloth Set is awesome and really exceeded my expectations. The Hooded Towel is quite large. It covers my 2.75 year old son with plenty of room to spare. In fact, I didn’t realize he’d outgrown his other hooded towels until we used the aden + anais towel. Made of 100% cotton, the towel is not super thick, but it is soft and my husband says it “feels like a robe in a fancy hotel.”

Now, the Muslin Washcloth is, in a word, enormous. And, that’s a good thing. It’s seriously the size of (or bigger than) a typical adult washcloth. It’s made of muslin and feels noticeably different from other washcloths. True to the claims about muslin, it definitely feels like a breathable fabric. It also feels layered for thickness and softness. The material also has a cute pattern (ours is orange fish) that coordinates with plain trim on the towel.
To Buy… The Hooded Towel and Muslin Washcloth Set is a great buy. The large size ensures you can use it for a while. The design is simple and the cotton is soft to your little one’s skin.

Or Not to Buy… The color section is limited and, while I like the simple design, it’s almost too plain. It’s be neat to incorporate the pattern from the washcloth on the towel or offer more color choices. (But I do love that the gender neutral color is a bright orange rather than a drab yellow or green.)

Shop! aden + anais Hooded Towel and Muslin Washcloth Set is $29.95 and comes in pink, blue and orange.

Thank you to aden + anais for providing a sample product for the purposes of this review. The opinions expressed in this review are mine and others may have a different experience.

Where Did My Baby Go?

by Kate on September 10th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
It’s official. She’s growing and exploring and learning and will soon be a toddler.
She has a tooth. Granted, she’s 9.5 months old so it’s no surprise or shock. But, I am in love with her gummy grin and it will soon look different. It’s probably a good thing, though, because no matter what delicious homemade baby food I prepare, she much prefers to feed herself. Here she is enjoying some fruity Cheerios!
The tooth wouldn’t be so bad if she hadn’t taken her first steps last weekend. Yes, she took two little steps all on her own. My husband and I watched in disbelief. I’m fairly certain she’s no where near actually walking – she can’t even really stand. She just has no fear and goes for it. Sometimes she gets a few steps in and other times she lands on her bottom immediately. One thing is certain – it’s only a matter of time until she is walking. And, with that I think my baby will be a toddler.

My sweet baby girl. Little one’s growing up is so bittersweet, isn’t it?
