Beeb is a very thoughtful and generous blogger – both in sharing her knowledge on her blogs and in sharing the comment love. She’s always stopping by to say hi and leave a comment when a post is lonely.

The Shopping Mama: Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.
My name is Beeb and I live on the north Oregon coast with my fiance, Jai. I was born in London, England, and moved to the US in 1989. Wordless Wednesday: Cinderella’s Castle

by Kate on September 23rd, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Life, Wordless Wednesday
We are smack dab in the middle of our trip to Walt Disney World. We’ve had a blast so far and we still have lots to see and do. It’s so exhausting, and yet somehow the kids are staying up too late and NOT sleeping in. What’s up with that?

Tonight we went to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I have lots of great photos but the internet is slow as molasses (and I’m not paying $10 a day for high speed). So, this one photo of Cinderella’s Castle from tonight will have to do for now.

Blogger Spotlight: Elizabeth from Suzy Q Homemaker

by Kate on September 22nd, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
Elizabeth is the busy mom of four – four! – boys. When she’s not chasing her kids around she somehow finds time to blog, sing professionally at weddings, knit and scrapbook. Let’s get to know Elizabeth!
The Shopping Mama: Tell us about yourself and your blog.
My name is Elizabeth and I started my blog back in 2006 after I finally graduated from college and was “officially” a stay-at-home mom. I only had three boys then, and the blog was merely a way for me to document and ramble about our life. Since the beginning of the year, it has branched out into three different blogs, one for shopping, one for crafts, and my personal blog as the centerpiece. I have four boys now, so I make sure to add little tidbits about their craziness. Life is never dull around my house, and I try to reflect that it my blog!

TSM: What’s the best part about writing a blog?
The best part about writing a blog is that it is my little corner of the web where I can vent, brag, and flesh out ideas. I love that I can make people laugh, or make people think, or ask for help myself if I need it. It’s also a great community tool.

TSM: If money were no object, what’s one thing you’d buy yourself right now?
If money were no object, I would buy myself a new house! We have a three-bedroom house, and with a family of six, living space is getting hard to come by. I need a studio for my crafting, and the boys are going to need more than one bedroom to share eventually. Until we can save up, though, we’re just learning to love each other in close quarters. Oh, I’d also buy myself a new camera. Yeah, that’d be sweet.

TSM: What are some of your favorite places to shop online?
Shopping online. I love browsing etsy.com and hyenacart.com. I’m a fan of handmade items and I like seeing what the crafters on these sites can come up with.

TSM: What are some of your favorite posts for us to check out?
I don’t have any giveaways going on right now, but I’ve got a pretty funny story about baby poop that some readers might enjoy: http://www.suzyqhomemaker.com/blog/baby-poop-disaster/. And if you want to read my thoughts on natural child birth, you can read this one: http://www.suzyqhomemaker.com/blog/natural-childbirth-my-thoughts/

Blogger Spotlight: Cat from 3 Kids and Us

by Kate on September 21st, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
Cat of 3 Kids and Us is just one of those women who seems to do it all. – she’s always busy on a new project or tackling a new challenge. But, what I love most about Cat is that she’s honest, and doesn’t sugar coat the fact that sometimes it’s really hard to be a wife, mother while successfully working at home. If you don’t already, you should start reading 3 Kids and Us!

TSM: Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.

Hi there, I’m Cat from 3 Kids and Us Blog. I’m the young mama in the blogging arena that started family life quite early. After graduating high school at the top of my class, I quickly fell in love and married a wonderful man. Together he and I started the journey of “3 Kids and Us.” I quickly tossed my dreams of being a professional single woman (with cats) and in eight short years we married and together made 3 beautiful children, Mattison (8), Kaydence (2), and Emmaleigh (6 months). Since the birth of our first child, I’ve been a work from home mommy dabbling in everything from self taught graphic design to website development.

Mom Talk with 3 Kids and Us is far more than a place to share my “mommy moments” but a place to share every aspect of my life to include:

Of course, you’ll always find that personal touch at 3 Kids and Us with mom topics ranging from our children’s milestones to stress calls and advice for poop on the walls. (yes, that REALLY does happen).

You can find me blogging at – Mom Talk with 3 Kids and Us

You can find me cooking at – Food for 5

You can find me tweeting at – 3 Kids and Us on Twitter

Or just drop an email to say hi – Email Cat

TSM: What’s the best part about writing a blog?
I love being able to write uncensored. The thing about having a blog is that it’s entirely yours. Your voice, your design, your personality all wrapped into this one little place online.

TSM: If money were no object, what’s one thing you’d buy right now?
I’m sure this sounds weird, with all the things money can buy you, the one thing we’d love to have is our back yard fenced in. Not only would we appreciate the privacy but to have a completely safe place for our three children to play and our 6 month old lab puppy to roam.

TSM: What are some of your favorite places to shop online?
I am all about the online shopping! Around Christmas time I spent a good chunk of change through Amazon. I also love to shop online at places we don’t have access to locally like Linens n Things.

TSM: What are some posts or giveaways we should check out?
I’ve got two amazing giveaways going on right now. You enter to win a Flor rug and check out the new fall collection. Also, I have a love of photography and Casio was kind enough to offer a gorgeous little Exilim digital camera to one of my readers.

But the really exciting news is the launch of my newest blog, Food for Five. I’ve taken all of my favorite homestyle recipes and created a food blog just for them. Our motto is “where food meets family.” Every recipe is developed for large families, such as my own, in mind.

I’m Gone, but The Shopping Mama’s Not: My Must Reads!

by Kate on September 20th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Blogging, Life
Just because I’m out of town enjoying an internet free internet-removed vacation I don’t want to leave you hanging. I hope you’ll take a look at some of my favorite posts and read them again or check them out for the first time.

Annabel Karmel Interview: I was absolutely thrilled to interview Annabel Karmel. She was gracious, lovely and full of wonderful information about feeding little ones. I seriously think back to our conversation often and try to keep her words in mind when I’m frustrated with trying to keep my kids eating healthy. I also love the post I wrote about how to make baby food, which is made fun with Annabel’s awesome recipes.

Crazy Dazy Discount: Long, long ago I did a week long series with suggestions of gifts for the kid who has everything. Not surprisingly, given my love of all things Stephen Joseph, I recommended the Quilted Backpack. The folks at the Crazy Dazy have an enormous selection of Stephen Joseph products and have offered a discount code with no expiration. Yay!

Ten Dollar Tuesday: One of my favorite things to do is browse Etsy. Who doesn’t? It is an amazing resource for beautiful, one of a kind products. It’s been my go-to resource for so much lately and it’s the first place I look when trying to find items to feature in the Ten Dollar Tuesday posts. I regret that I haven’t been able to do this feature every single week because I love it. The whole point is to find something awesome AND affordable so you can get your shopping fix without breaking the bank.

Life: Although this blog is largely about stuff, more and more I’ve injected bits and pieces and stories about my life. Sometimes it’s hard to open myself up to criticism or scrutiny, but honestly most often I post about my life because I’m looking to relate to other mamas. I know I’m not the first person to deal with life as a military spouse, exhaustion from a baby waking through the night or a troublesome toddler.

And while I’m doing this silly retrospective, I need to THANK YOU for reading. Writing a blog has become a real outlet for me. It’s grown into a way to connect with other moms, a source of friendship and support and I just LOVE it. I really do hope that at least a few of you enjoy reading The Shopping Mama for more than just giveaways because I enjoy writing it. But, it wouldn’t be any fun without all of you! <3
