Envirosax Review: Shop in Eco-Style

I’ve been admiring Envirosax from afar for some time. In fact, I featured Envirosax in a Ten Dollar Tuesday post in April. You can’t blame me for being excited when I learned Envirosax was going to participate in the Get Cool for School giveaway bash and that I’d get my very own to review. Nice.

About Envirosax
Envirosax presents the environmentally conscious shopper with a practical option, which will spread the environmental message with style. Eco-chic Envirosax are made of durable waterproof lightweight polyester, built for toughness and extra strength. Envirosax – a move in the right direction.

I’ve been making a real effort for months to use fabric reusable shopping bags rather than plastic bags. But, let’s face it, the ones I have are not cute. They’re bland, boring and kind of bulky. Envirosax are totally different. For starters, Envirosax bags are available in a TON of colorful, stylish patterns. I received the Mikado Bag 5 from the Graphic Series. I love the way it looks, but more than that the way it feels. The Envirosax bag isn’t that weird bumpy fabric of my other reusable shopping bags. It’s made of waterproof lightweight polyester and actually feels kind of soft. The shape is different from my other bags, too. It doesn’t have a square bottom, and rather is shaped more like a rounded bottom tote or purse. The handles are thick and easy to carry.

I love that the Envirosax is super lightweight (1.4 ounces) and can be folded and fastened to stay compact. You can see from the picture that it folds up to be smaller than my iPhone. It’s super easy to just throw into my diaper bag so I always have it. There’s really no excuse not to use it! Even though it folds up small, it opens to 19.5 by 16.5 inches and can carry up to 44 pounds.

To Buy… At $8.50, Envirosax seem like a steal. I love mine and will probably buy more – both for me and as gifts for family.

Or Not to Buy… This is nitpicking, but the color of my Envirosax wasn’t quite what I expected. On my monitor it looked black and gray but was more brownish in person.

Sleepy Wrap Review

I am a fan of babywearing, but I admit to being in a rut. I’ve used the same carrier 75% of the time with both my son when he was smaller and now with Baby Girl. However, that same ol’ go-to baby carrier has not been cutting it lately. After about 10 minutes, it starts to dig into my shoulders and grows more and more uncomfortable, making it feel like Baby Girl weighs 50 pounds instead of 18. Luckily, we received a Sleepy Wrap and it’s been such a nice babywearing change!

About Sleepy Wrap

While searching for a “healthier and more natural alternative to baby strollers”, the founders of the Sleepy Wrap had one goal in mind: “Something to make both the carried and the carrier happy.” They discovered a soft, durable fabric (95% cotton and 5% spandex) with a little elasticity to cradle baby and distribute the weight between the carrying parent’s shoulders and back. Because the wrap “provides excellent support for baby’s head, neck, hips and legs – especially when asleep” – the Sleepy Wrap was born.

The Sleepy Wrap is a long piece of cloth (5.5 yards long and 20 inches wide) that you tie around your shoulders and back to carry baby. Before I even used the wrap I was impressed with the finish and material. The ends of the Sleepy Wrap narrow so that when tied it hangs nicely and is not totally bulky. I also love that the Sleepy Wrap comes with a convenient carrying pouch so you can fold up the wrap and throw into your car or large diaper bag.

While I’m a fan, I am no babywearing expert so the wrap is slightly intimidating. But, I followed the instructions included with the Sleepy Wrap and had no trouble wearing Baby Girl in the Classic Lo ve Your Baby Hold. I love the closeness and coziness of carrying Baby Girl this was and it felt like a dream. It is seriously so much more comfortable than the front carrier or sling I’ve used. The Wrap is so snug but the material is so soft and it is just so comfortable – literally molds to feel like part of your body. (I know that sounds cheesy, but I really don’t know how else to explain it!)

Because Baby Girl is on the older side of the recommended ages for use, she was a tad bored facing my chest so I inquired about other carrying positions. I was directed to a YouTube video about a Back Carrying position. (By the way, the Sleepy Wrap folks are so helpful and full of information – they even have a Wrapping Assistant you can email with questions!) We tried the Back Carrying position and it is definitely not for beginners – it required my mom’s assistance, but the result was very comfortable for me. I think we’ll revisit it in a few months when Baby Girl is a little bigger and I’m more experienced with the Sleepy Wrap.

For the heck of it, I tried wearing Toddler Boy. He actually liked it more than I thought he would and said he wasn’t ready to get out when I went to put him down. The elasticity and give of the fabric was noticeable and he was situated much lower against my body than Baby Girl.

The Sleepy Wrap website is full of information including the benefits of babywearing, 27 advantages of Sleepy Wrap, and a baby carrier comparison – there’s so much there, in fact, that it’s hard for me to narrow down the information to include in this post!

To Buy… The Sleepy Wrap is designed for newborns and for babies in the first year of life. but it offers many different positions for holding your baby at various ages. Technically the Sleepy Wrap has no weight limitations and can be worn as long as comfortable for mom and babe. While I like using the Sleepy Wrap now and know that I will continue to use it as a more comfortable alternative to my front carrier. I would have LOVED to have this with a newborn; it would be an awesome baby shower or new baby gift.

Or Not to Buy… There’s definitely a learning curve to using a baby wrap. It takes a little patience and practice, but I think the end result is worth it.
