Happy Green Bee Review: Organic Clothes for Kids

Happy Green Bee clothing company was founded by Roxanne Quimby, the woman behind Burt’s Bees, when she recognized a void in the market for organic cotton clothing for kids.
Happy Green Bee Mission
To create cheerful gender-free organic kids clothing with sustainable earth friendly manufacturing practices in an effort to meet and increase the demand for organic children’s clothing that not only looks and feels great but is contributing in positive ways to the welfare of our planet.

Why Organic Cotton?
* Pure, natural and breathable fiber
* Does not retain toxic residues
* No pesticides, petroleum-based fertilizers or genetically engineered seed used to grow

Happy Green Bee provided us with an adorable outfit for Baby Girl – a short sleeve tee and matching skort. (How much do you like a skort on a little girl, by the way?) She generally wears 6 – 12 month size clothing but has a medium shirt and a small skort as the skorts run big.

The first thing I noticed is how different the fabric feels from all our other kid’s clothes. The only thing I can compare it to is a woven silk top I would buy at Ann Taylor or something. It’s definitely soft and seems comfortable but it’s obvious Happy Green Bee clothes are different.

I was nervous for Baby Girl to wear the clothes because they felt a little heavy and better suited for winter (and she gets very hot and sweaty very easily). I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable she remained while crawling around in her Happy Green Bee outfit. I do think she’ll wear it more as the weather cools off, but it was clear that the fabric does breathe very well. I also think these clothes are the perfect blend of looking a little “dress up” (like for church or a special occasion) while not being stuffy or uncomfortable.
To Buy… I love that Happy Green Bee clothes are designed to mix and match. And, of course, I like having my kiddos wear something that is environmentally-friendly and easy on their young skin.

Or Not to Buy… As much as I love the unisex approach to children’s clothing (and swore I would dress my kids in what was comfortable) I do tend to buy fairly gender specific clothes for my kids. If I could make an improvement it would be to add more “girly” colors to the mix – perhaps a pink / green stripe or pink / chocolate stripe.
