Heather Stouffer, the founder of Mom Made Foods was excited to create and cook fresh food for her son when it came time to introduce solids. However, like many of us, as a busy working mom she found there often wasn’t enough time in the day to make fresh food from scratch. She says, “When I needed a break, I couldn’t find any freshly made, store-bought alternatives that I felt good about feeding him. If I won’t eat it, why would I feed it to my baby, especially as his first introduction to the world of food!” That’s when, with the help of her professional chef brother, Heather created Mom Made Foods.
As you know I’m a fan of making my own baby food. But, for many busy moms it’s not a realistic option. And, even if you do make your own baby food there are inevitably times it’s not practical (for example, when traveling). Enter Mom Made for Baby. This line of food consists of fruits and vegetable purees prepared to preserve taste with no additives, preservatives or dyes. There are currently four purees available: broccoli, sweet potato, pear and apple. The ingredients in each puree are simple: organic vegetable and filtered water or fruit, filtered water and organic lemon juice – that’s it! No funny business. The fruits and vegetables are gently cooked at peak freshness and promptly frozen to retain vitamins for your little one.
Sold in packs of 2 3.5 ounce cups, Mom Made purees are purchased frozen. You can allow the puree to thaw in the refrigerator and heat in the microwave – super simple and fast!
We were very lucky to receive a sample of each puree for Baby Girl to sample. To that point, her only fruits and vegetables were homemade. We were out of town so it was super convenient for me to thaw a cup and feed her with no hassle. In addition, I felt totally confident that she was eating well because she was getting perfectly natural organic goodness. And good it was! Baby Girl is still working on her eating skills, but she enjoyed her food as much as a 7.5 month old can. I sampled each and was so pleased with what I tasted and smelled. (I can assure you that unlike typical jarred baby food, you know exactly what you’re eating when you eat Mom Made Foods!) In particular, when the sweet potatoes were heated they smelled just like they do when oven-baked. I also have to admit that the pears were better than I make at home. The consistency was so smooth and perfect for a first solid.
Mom Made Meals and Munchies
In addition to baby food, Mom Made also offers choice organic food for big kids! If you’ve been following the All About Eating series, you know that I struggle to feed Toddler Boy a variety of nutritious snacks and meals. In stark contrast to your average run of the mill frozen food, Mom Made Meals and Munchies are loaded with veggies, low in sodium and they really are a guilt-free option for quick food. The Meals are Cheesy Mac and Fiesta Rice and Munchies are Cheese Pizza and Bean Burrito.
Again, we were generously provided with samples of the delicious Mom Made Food for Toddler Boy and I am totally, completely impressed. I just LOVE that I was able to provide my little guy with a completely balanced, totally organic and nutritious meal void of junk in a matter of minutes. And, he actually ate! (If that’s not a testament to Mom Made Foods I don’t know what is!)
Here are the highlights of the Meals and Munchies:
* Cheesy Mac: In addition to the visible peas, sweet potato and butternut squash purees are added.
* Fiesta Rice: Gluten-free, brown rice with beans and veggies. A total hit the night we were eating Mexican casserole that Toddler Boy won’t touch with a 10 foot pole. It smelled ah-mazing and much more flavorful than I anticipated.
* Bean Burrito: Sold in a pack of two, each is a great size for Toddler Boy to hold in his pudgy hands. Of course, made of organic vegetables and grains.
* Cheese Pizza: Contains no trans-fat and sneaks in vitamins with pureed sweet potato, butternut squash, potato and cauliflower.
To Buy… Mom Made Foods for Baby are a great alternative to making your own baby food when it’s just not feasible, like on vacation or during a busy time at work. And, I am hooked on Mom Made Meals and Munchies! It’s so nice to have an honest-to-goodness healthy, quick and easy meal option for my picky eater.
Or Not to Buy… Because Mom Made Foods are not available in a store near me, my only option is to purchase online and it’s rather expensive. If it’s not available in your area, you can request Mom Made Foods using a prepared letter on the website.

July 6, 2009This is great. I heard you can buy on Amazon too. Amazon is always running shipping specials so it helps with the costs, but agree, what great resources we have availible for our little ones.

July 15, 2009We had a baby food grinder when my boys were small and I loved it! It was especially handy when we were going out to dinner: baby ate whatever we ate.
