I’m Probably Going to Jinx Myself, But…

Baby Girl has slept through the night for the past FIVE nights! I feel like a new woman! So, if I were reading this post as a sleep-deprived mama my first reaction would be to ask, “What did you do?” Okay, scratch that. My first reaction would be, “Shut UP, Bragger McBraggerson! No fair.”

But, to answer the question, I have NO idea what I did or how it happened. Baby Girl had literally been waking up at least once or twice after she went to bed at 7:30 before I went to bed at 11. Last Thursday she didn’t do that. I thought that was a nice treat and went to bed as usual. Except I forgot to turn my husband’s fan down. I woke up in a total PANIC Friday morning at 6 and rushed into Baby Girl’s room – totally freaking out about the fact that I hadn’t heard from her all night. I found my sweet little thing (I can call her sweet now that she’s allowing me to sleep for more than a 3 hour stretch) laying quietly in her crib at the opposite end from where she usually sleeps. I nursed her, she went back to sleep and I spent the next several hours wondering what exactly had happened the night before.

Had she awakened several times and cried for me? Had she fussed herself back to sleep without much trouble? I seriously felt so guilty about not knowing. But, then when Friday night came I decided to do things exactly the same way. I felt guilty about not knowing exactly she put herself back to sleep at night, but my desire for sleep outweighed my guilt!

Every night since has been quite similar. It’s awesome. And, even with my husband’s fan on at night (though I do try to remember to turn it down each night), I hear her when she wakes in the morning so I’ve grown comfortable that if she’s really upset I’ll hear her.

Yikes – how’d this post get so long? Thanks for letting me share my good news! And, fingers crossed this trend continues.

Actually, I do have one idea… she's been eating solids a lot more consistently and actually getting some in her belly rather than just on her face.

I sleep with a fan on, too! I figure if something is really wrong I will wake up because I wake up in the morning when he's crying. Yay for sleep! It makes up better mommies :o )
