Following the success of the first two campaigns, AllAmericanDirect.com, is launching their third “Laptops for Flat Tops” contest that gives military families a chance to win 2 laptops with webcams to help improve communication with their loved one while they are serving. The contest kicked off Monday, August 3 and runs through September 3.

“In our first two contests we set out to raise awareness and support for our troops, and the response was overwhelming,” said Mike Mountford, CEO of AllAmericanDirect.com. “The stories that we have heard have inspired us, and reassured us that something as simple as a laptop can lift a family’s spirits in a time of great need. We salute the families that have sacrificed so much to serve our country.” To read entry details and more information check out the All American Direct Laptops for Flat Tops webpage.

Stephen Joseph Review: Great Gifts for Kids

by Kate on July 31st, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Reviews

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Stephen Joseph Gifts. Toddler Boy has been using a Quilted Backpack for over a year and a half and it’s been my go-to birthday gift for his friends. I am absolutely thrilled that Stephen Joseph is participating in the Get Cool for School Bash through awesome reviews and generous giveaways (more on the giveaways next week!).

About Stephen Joseph Gifts
Stephen Joseph Gifts is a fresh, bright and innovative line of gifts for children. Our passion is to create the cutest gift items in the industry! … With vibrant colors, exceptional quality and caring attention to every detail, Stephen Joseph Gift products are appealing to customers both young and old!

Stephen Joseph generously provided Toddler Boy with a Zoo Square Lunchbox. The lunchbox is insulated with a velcro strap to hold a drink, a pocket on the inside and a zippered pocket on the outside. The Lunchbox is a good size with more than enough room for a packed lunch. (You can get an idea of the size of the box from the photos below.) I really love having the velcro to hold a sippy cup in place so that it doesn’t roll around and smoosh a sandwich or crackers or anything else “fragile”. The inside pocket is great for small utensils or napkins and the outside pocket is useful to store a little something you want to keep separate.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that because this is a lunchbox it is only good for Toddler Boy to take food to school. We’ve been using it a lot as a family rather than a small cooler when we go to the pool or the park. It’s small enough that it’s easy to bring along (and Toddler Boy is happy to carry it) and it is big enough to hold snacks and a a drink for my son and containers of food for Baby Girl. The lunchbox is also quite sturdy and easy to wipe clean.

The Zoo pattern, like all Stephen Joseph designs, is adorable. It’s bright and cheerful, modern and graphic, and just plain fun to look at. Some of my other favorite patterns are Girl Pirate (Argh! So cute!), Dino and Ladybug. What’s fun, too, is that if you find a pattern you really like you can get practically anything to match and coordinate from backpacks to room decor to stationery.

To Buy… Um, yes! I highly recommend Stephen Joseph Gifts. I think the products are adorable, fabulously made and a great value for the money. I have no doubt we’ll purchase more Stephen Joseph for our family and for friends.

Or Not to Buy… From the time I started thinking about writing this post I’ve been trying to come up with something I don’t like about Stephen Joseph products. I didn’t think of anything. The only improvement I can see is the ability to order embroidered items through the Stephen Joseph webstore. You know how I feel about personalized gear for kids (LOVE) and you CAN have the quilted items embroidered, just not directly through the Stephen Joseph site.

Shop! Check out the new Stephen Joseph webstore for the complete line of products. You can purchase the Lunch Box for only $14.99 and the Quilted Backpack is $24.99.

Win! The Get Cool for School Bash will include TWO Stephen Joseph prizes! Stay tuned…

Chaos

by Kate on July 31st, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
Our house is a complete mess. Total chaos. It’s 100 times worse than our usual state of disarray that comes with a toddler and little curious crawler (and a poor housekeeper of a mama).
Hopefully the current chaos will be worth it… We are having new flooring installed Monday and Tuesday. We’re ditching carpet and some tile in the dining room, living room, entry and hallways. While I am super excited about the end result I am NOT excited about the next several days as our house becomes an even bigger mess. My husband started moving furniture last night and then, just for the heck of it, decided to destroy some tile. He wanted to see how difficult it will be to demo our entryway. I, apparently, get to see how difficult it will be to keep two kids out of the entryway.

I’m going to try to keep the kids occupied and out of the house as much as possible while the house is being torn apart and put back together, but I’m really nervous. It’s so darn hot that playing outside for long isn’t a good option, not to mention the fact that it’s just plain hard to be out and about with a 2.5 year old and an 8 month old. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for ways to keep the kids entertained and out of the way? Or maybe you can just offer some words of encouragement!

And, did I mention my mom arrives Wednesday! I just hope we have the nursery / guest room cleared by then so she has a place to sleep and put her suitcase.

Finally, I really need to look into the best way to keep our new floor clean and find some area rugs. If you have a wood or laminate floor, what do you do to keep it clean?

Ufadili Review: Kids’ Clothes with a Cause

by Kate on July 31st, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
If it’s not yet apparent, let me make it clear that I enjoy cute clothes for my kids. I am quick to point out that they have far better wardrobes than me. But, Ufadili kind world goods asks the question “What if clothes were more than just cute?”

About Ufadili

Ufadili was founded on the philosophical cornerstone of conscious consumerism. I [Founder Michelle Mandeville] had an idea of a place where the simple decision of buying a shirt for my daughter or a onesie for my son could be a great connecting experience – an experience that connected us artistically, culturally, educationally and charitably to the rest of the world. In this spirit came the concept for Ufadili , a name inspired by the Swahili word “ufadhili” meaning “kindheartedness, goodwill”.

Wear * Learn * Give
Wear. Ufadili tees and onesies are super soft, 100% cotton and made in the US. They offer a cute selection of designs for babies, kids and even adults. Most shirts have a cute animal and the name of that animal in a language other than English.

Learn. A giving tag is attached to every shirt with the the translation into 5 languages and fun facts about the design. Toddler Boy’s shirt, for example, features the Ufadili logo monkey and the tag tells us how to say monkey in four other languages as well as a fun fact about monkeys.

Give. A whopping 30% of Ufadili profits are donated to various organizations to help children, animals and the planet. That’s really a remarkable and completely generous percentage that benefits some great charities, including Heifer International (which in addition to having an awesome name is an amazing charity).

To Buy… Toddler Boy’s Monkey tee is totally cute, very soft and he’s already received several compliments and questions about it.

Or Not to Buy… Really, my only negative is the price tag. To justify the cost, think of it as more than just purchasing a tee. You really are making a donation and participating in “conscious consumerism.”

Shop! Browse and purchase Ufadili tees and onesies online. Short sleeve onesies are $32 and tees are $34. Long sleeve and raglan designs are also available.

Win! Look for Ufadili tees in Get Cool for School Prize Packs starting next week.

Carolina Pad Review: Stylish School and Office Products

by Kate on July 30th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a dork. (Trust me, it’s true.) Case in point? One of my favorite parts of back to school shopping was actually buying stuff like notebooks and binders and dividers. So what does it mean that as a grown woman no longer in school that I was totally excited to receive a box of fabulous Carolina Pad stylish paper products. That I’m still a dork? Probably. But, when you see this stuff you’ll understand why I was excited.
About Carolina Pad
We hope you love our fashion school and office products as much as we do. Because frankly, we’re a little crazy when it comes to great design. What better way to express yourself than with splashes of color and design that reflect your personal style. So at Carolina Pad, every day is dedicated to meeting our core mission: We will excite our customers by bringing extraordinary fashion and innovation to everyday products.

Carolina Pad was founded in 1945 by former teacher, coach and principal with the core philosophy of “service, reliability, and quality at a fair price.” Today, that principal remains and is married with funky, colorful modern patterns of amazing style.

Carolina Pad products are so cute that you’re bound to find something you like (and need) even if no one in your home is preparing for back to school. I love the small Kendall Collection spiral bound book to keep in my diaper bag. I always carry a small note pad like this for shopping and random lists and notes. And, of course, as a go-to way to occupy and entertain Toddler Boy when we’re out and about. If you are going to carry one anyway, it might as well be cute.

Another standout is the Sasquatch composition notebook. Made of 100% recycled material, it’s great looking and perfect for writing and journaling (me) and scribbling (Toddler Boy).
To Buy… With everything from notebooks to folders to laptop sleeves and photo albums, Carolina Pad offers super stylish and totally functional school supplies and home office gear to meet the needs of everyone in your home. The quality is great and the price is right.

Or Not to Buy… Really no reason not to! Even if you don’t need, anything, when the stuff this cute, you can make an excuse to buy a thing or two.

Shop! The Carolina Pad webstore has a limited selection and you can find products in stores near you including Target, KMart and Publix among many others.

Wordless Wednesday: 8 Months

We take pictures of the little ones every month until their first birthday. It’s so fun to compare Toddler Boy and Baby Girl. What do you think? Do they look alike?
Toddler Boy – August 2007Baby Girl – July 2009

The only thing that’s obvious to me in these photos is the vast difference in the quality of cameras. Our new pics put the old ones to shame!
