Ten Dollar Tuesday: Say Your Piece

by Kate on June 9th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

Say Your Piece, a custom ceramics shop on Etsy, is full of a ton of cute little bowls that make great gifts. The shop is really sweet, and most things can be personalized with your choice of color and sentiment. And, of course, many of the dishes at Say Your Piece are $10 or less. Here are a few of my favorites.
The Brand New Baby Boy dish is just super cute and only $10.

If you’re looking for a more personalized baby gift, the Welcome to the World – Personalized Ceramic Baby Keepsake Dish is amazingly adorable. It breaks the $10 Tuesday theme, though, and is $15.

I think the My Little Princess dish would be a great addition to a girl’s bedroom or bathroom. I mean, seriously, the little fairy princess? So cute! This little gem is only $8.

A fun gift for your friend with a sweet tooth (me), is the Cupcake Lovers Only 3.5 inch dish. And, again, it’s only $8. Such a fun little just because gift for a friend (me).

Shop! Browse and enjoy all the great ceramic and handpainted pieces at Say Your Piece on Etsy. Prices start at only $8!

Now, say your peace, and tell me your favorite!

Bella Sara Trading Cards for Girls

by Kate on June 9th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

As the mom of a Toddler Boy and a Baby Girl we have yet to enter the world of trading cards but our close friends’ daughters were very excited with the two Bella Sara Royalty Card Packs I gave them. Apparently well known among young girls like our friends, Bella Sara is the most successful trading card product ever created for girls. Indeed, over 83 million cards have been sold to date!

Haven’t heard of Bella Sara? Here are the basics, from the website:
Bella Sara is a safe, fun-filled magical world of horses and other characters for children ages 5 and up to expand their imaginations. Originally launched in Denmark by Gitte Odder Braendgaard, Bella Sara inspires pro-social dialogue and inspirational thought with positive messages. …Bella Sara products come with positive messaging and a secret code that expands a child’s experience with a virtual online world. By entering these secret codes at BellaSara.com, children can enhance their online and offline experiences with games, activities, and caring for their magical horses.

Bella Sara recently launched the the ninth series called Royalty which explores royal life and castles in the ficticious magical land North of North. The namesake, Sara, is introduced on her own card. In addition to the new characters, the Bella Sara website also recently launched new elements and games for online play.

So based on my friend’s report, the girls like the cards and the interactive play on the computer. They like that the cards come with codes that can be used online to unlock and reveal new items. My friend likes it because it encourages the girls to use their imaginations and has a positive message.

Shop! Bella Sara trading cards come in sets of five, retail for $2.99 and are suggested for girls five and older.

BabyLegs Cool! Review + Giveaway

by Kate on June 8th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

BabyLegs aren’t your baby’s mama’s 80′s leg warmers (although my husband keeps insisting I reference Flashdance in this post). Available in a wide variety of styles, BabyLegs are true multi-taskers. They can be used to cover legs (duh) during a diaper change, as a cute substitute for pants, to cover arms or as leggings under a skirt. And, the awesome recently introduced BabyLegs cool are perfect for summer. Created from single-ply mesh material, BabyLegs Cool! provide SPF 50+ protection from the sun. And did I mention they’re cute!

About BabyLegs, from the website:
In 2005, Nicole Donnelly, then a stay-at-home mom, created BabyLegs to keep her dear daughter, Sara’s, little legs warm, while she was diaper free to allow bad rashes to heal. This impromptu invention not only allowed Sara’s rash to heal, but also protected her from many elements, made diaper changes quick and easy, kept her knees protected while crawling, and provided sun protection.

Baby Girl has been rocking the Flutter BabyLegs Cool! It’s super hot and humid where we live and my little one sweats like a beast (so not ladylike!) so I was interested in whether Baby Girl’d be a sweaty mess with her legs covered. The mesh material really breathes well, though, and she wasn’t any hotter in these than in a pair of shorts or a dress.

It’s a great time for her to be wearing BabyLegs, too, because Baby Girl has been army crawling a lot lately. I like that her little legs and knees are protected from rug burns and dirt when she drags herself across the floor.

Most importantly, BabyLegs Cool! provide SPT 50+ protection. If you’ve ever tried to apply sunscreen to a baby, you know it’s hard. With BabyLegs there’s no guesswork – you know your little ones arms or legs are covered and protected.

To Buy… BabyLegs are just so cute and sensible for little ones during any season, but I particularly love that BabyLegs Cool! provide SPF protection without making a little one too hot.

Or Not to Buy… The only improvement I can think of is to offer a larger variety in the Cool! brand. They are all pretty similar and not as varied as the traditional BabyLegs.

Shop! BabyLegs Cool! are available in four cute pattterns and are available for purchase at http://www.babylegs.com/ for $15. There are TONS of options in traditional BabyLegs for babies, boys and girls – and there’s even an organic collection.

Win! A pair of BabyLegs for your little one!

Sunday Spotlight: Cherry Hill Designs

by Kate on June 7th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Sunday Spotlight, Weekly Features

I’m excited to spotlight a great shop Cherry Hill Designs and the designer, Angie. You may remember Cherry Hill Designs from a great giveaway during the It’s In the Bag Bash last month. All the designs are modern, fresh and totally cute. I am the lucky recipient of the Good Cheer foldovers (set of 12 for $15). They are absolutely perfect and fun. And, I love them so much I recently purchased the coordinating return address labels. Super cute!

Angie is the work at home mom to a young daughter who lives in Texas. She is the youngest of NINE siblings — seven girls, two boys — all from the same parents. Can you imagine? Angie talks a little more about her big ol’ family: “Most of my siblings and family members also have their own small businesses. My parents were both entrepreneurs and inventors, and I guess we all inherited that same drive. I’m currently working on an Etsy collaborative shop with my creative sisters called SevenSistersShop. It’s a work-in-progress in honor of sister Pam who passed away this time last year. She always wanted us to open a shop together.”

I think the SevenSistersShop sounds like an amazing tribute to her sister.

TSM: When did you start making and selling your goods?
I started making party and shower invitations for friends and family about 7 years ago. I kept getting more and more requests, so I put up a small website a few years later. At the time, I still had a “day job” doing graphic design for my brother’s football business. I launched the website right before Christmas in 2005 and designed some fun, photo holiday cards and stationery. I didn’t advertise at all — just word of mouth. Frankly, I was overwhelmed by the response that holiday season!
And in 2006, I launched a line of waterproof vinyl stickers and then those took off like CRAZY. So a few years later, I asked my brother if I could work part time until my daughter was born. Of course, he obliged. Cherry Hill Designs continued to grow and I never went back to work after taking a maternity leave almost a year ago. I do this full-time from a home studio now (well, full-time except between nap times and quick jaunts to the pool this summer). I’m so blessed to be able to work from home and spend a lot of time with my daughter.

TSM: What is your favorite item to make or sell?
The new ones! I love thinking up new ways to make products and designs. That’s my favorite part. When I see orders come in for a new product that just launched, I get SO excited!

TSM: What is your inspiration?
I usually get ideas when I see a need for something. Some new product ideas come from my clients and distributors who just tell me something they (or their customers) really need. Then I start on research and development before beginning the design process and launching. Sometimes it takes a week — sometimes a year — to launch a new product. The iron-on labels were in development for several years. I have quite a few products in the works right now: storage bin labels, kitchen labels, hang tags, recipe cards, coasters…all just waiting to be released!

TSM: Do you have any plans for new, additional products or business expansion?
TONS!!! I keep a notebook chock-full of ideas, sketches and patterns, but rarely have time to flesh out even a fraction of my notes. My next project is a web site redesign, but that will take some time. I don’t have any plans right now to expand to the point where I can’t work from home, but some occasional help with shipping and processing orders would be nice. Nap time is never long enough…

TSM: If money were no object what is one thing you would buy right now?
Hmmm…good question. Probably a digital printing press, a gigantic stack cutter, or another label printer. None of which we have room for in our house. So, while I’m dreaming, I’d better get a bigger studio too.

TSM: What are some of your favorite stores or Etsy shops online?
Oh, so many! On Etsy, I love (just to name a few): LittleBitShabby, cakeboxcookies, irisandpetunia, DressReHERSal and GulfCoastCottage.

I also love: EMTannerDesigns, Giddy Giddy, Ritzy Baby and The Gap! I have a baby girl, can you tell? :)
Thanks for all the great recommendations. I love finding new shops to check out!

Connect! Keep up with Angie and Cherry Hill Designs on Twitter, Facebook and the Cherry Hill Designs blog.

Shop! Cherry Hill Designs website offers a wide variety of sippy cup labels (set of 20 start at $16), stationery and matching mailing labels and iron-on labels (set of 40 for $16).
