I’m excited to spotlight a great shop Cherry Hill Designs and the designer, Angie. You may remember Cherry Hill Designs from a great giveaway during the It’s In the Bag Bash last month. All the designs are modern, fresh and totally cute. I am the lucky recipient of the Good Cheer foldovers (set of 12 for $15). They are absolutely perfect and fun. And, I love them so much I recently purchased the coordinating return address labels. Super cute!

Angie is the work at home mom to a young daughter who lives in Texas. She is the youngest of NINE siblings — seven girls, two boys — all from the same parents. Can you imagine? Angie talks a little more about her big ol’ family: “Most of my siblings and family members also have their own small businesses. My parents were both entrepreneurs and inventors, and I guess we all inherited that same drive. I’m currently working on an Etsy collaborative shop with my creative sisters called SevenSistersShop. It’s a work-in-progress in honor of sister Pam who passed away this time last year. She always wanted us to open a shop together.”
I think the SevenSistersShop sounds like an amazing tribute to her sister.
TSM: When did you start making and selling your goods?
I started making party and shower invitations for friends and family about 7 years ago. I kept getting more and more requests, so I put up a small website a few years later. At the time, I still had a “day job” doing graphic design for my brother’s football business. I launched the website right before Christmas in 2005 and designed some fun, photo holiday cards and stationery. I didn’t advertise at all — just word of mouth. Frankly, I was overwhelmed by the response that holiday season!
And in 2006, I launched a line of waterproof vinyl stickers and then those took off like CRAZY. So a few years later, I asked my brother if I could work part time until my daughter was born. Of course, he obliged. Cherry Hill Designs continued to grow and I never went back to work after taking a maternity leave almost a year ago. I do this full-time from a home studio now (well, full-time except between nap times and quick jaunts to the pool this summer). I’m so blessed to be able to work from home and spend a lot of time with my daughter.
TSM: What is your favorite item to make or sell?
The new ones! I love thinking up new ways to make products and designs. That’s my favorite part. When I see orders come in for a new product that just launched, I get SO excited!

TSM: What is your inspiration?
I usually get ideas when I see a need for something. Some new product ideas come from my clients and distributors who just tell me something they (or their customers) really need. Then I start on research and development before beginning the design process and launching. Sometimes it takes a week — sometimes a year — to launch a new product. The iron-on labels were in development for several years. I have quite a few products in the works right now: storage bin labels, kitchen labels, hang tags, recipe cards, coasters…all just waiting to be released!
TSM: Do you have any plans for new, additional products or business expansion?
TONS!!! I keep a notebook chock-full of ideas, sketches and patterns, but rarely have time to flesh out even a fraction of my notes. My next project is a web site redesign, but that will take some time. I don’t have any plans right now to expand to the point where I can’t work from home, but some occasional help with shipping and processing orders would be nice. Nap time is never long enough…

TSM: If money were no object what is one thing you would buy right now?
Hmmm…good question. Probably a digital printing press, a gigantic stack cutter, or another label printer. None of which we have room for in our house. So, while I’m dreaming, I’d better get a bigger studio too.
TSM: What are some of your favorite stores or Etsy shops online?
Oh, so many! On Etsy, I love (just to name a few): LittleBitShabby, cakeboxcookies, irisandpetunia, DressReHERSal and GulfCoastCottage.
I also love: EMTannerDesigns, Giddy Giddy, Ritzy Baby and The Gap! I have a baby girl, can you tell?
Thanks for all the great recommendations. I love finding new shops to check out!
