BabySunWear: Protect-A-Bub Review

by Kate on June 13th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

For the past couple weeks in the Friday sales, coupons and discount post I’ve highlighted the website BabySunWear.com because of the amazing prizes on Protect-A-Bub swimwear. I had the opportunity to review a Protect-A-Bub sunshade a couple months ago and assumed the swimwear would be of the same quality making the $9 two-piece swimsuit a steal. (And, frankly, $9 swimsuit for a crappy swimsuit is a steal, but Protect-A-Bub suits were $25 – $29.)

I was excited to try out the swimsuit for ourselves to see if it was all I expected. Naturally, I was right and the swimsuit is great. Toddler Boy received the two piece Sun Protective Swim Suit in Navy and Yellow.
The suit fits a bit different than his other bathing suits, and I attribute that to the fact that all the suits are gender-neutral. The bottoms are more euro-style, if you know what I mean, and if you don’t that means they are more fitted. (Oh, I could tell stories about the bathing suits I’ve seen men wear in Germany.) In fact, the bottoms are a bit tight around his diaper so if you are between sizes or unsure, I would order up.

Benefits of Protect-A-Bub Swimwear
* UPF 50+
* Blocks more than 98% of UVA and UVB rays
* Fast drying
* Chlorine resistant
In addition to two piece suits, BabySunWear also has Protective Sun Hats for $6 and Long-Sleeve Sun Protective Shirts for $9.

To Buy…
For only $9, this bathing suit offers great sun protection and very good coverage. And, Toddler Boy didn’t complain about it once, which tells me its comfortable and easy to swim in.

Or Not to Buy… There is only one option for style and cut and some sizes are no longer available.

Sentimental Silver: Review + Giveaway (Closed)

by Kate on June 12th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

Beautiful, personalized silver jewelry always catches my eye. 1. I wear silver and platinum jewelry, 2. I love the idea of showing off the fact that I’m a mom while being subtle and not over the top, and 3. It’s a fun splurge. That’s why I’m so excited to find Sentimental Silver.

About Sentimental Silver and Christi, from the website:
With a lifelong love of crafts, fashion, art, design and all things girly, Christi [Johnstone] started Sentimental Silver in 2005 and launched her website, www.sentimentalsilver.com, in June 2006. Christi has created a full line of jewelry that women will find versatile and easy to wear for casual or formal occasions. She has combined her lifelong love of crafts and fashion to design pieces that women of all ages can enjoy.

Sentimental Silver pendants are made from pure silver (.999) and completely made by hand. Each piece is customized to include that name or words you would like and some pieces even include crystals for a little something-something.

I received a beautiful necklace from the Sparkle Line. My initial reaction upon opening and touching it was that it is very substantial. I’ve had other silver stamped jewelry that was dainty and, well, flimsy. My Sentimental Silver necklace has some weight to it. It’s solid and the round pendant is thick and the chain is weighty.

Remember how I said I like silver jewelry because it’s a fun splurge? Well, the great thing about Sentimental Silver is that it feels and looks like a splurge but is less expensive than some famous high-end silver jewelry.

One of my favorites pieces is the Sparkle Bar. You can personalize with your little one’s name and birthstone. And, yes, I have bookmarked this page so I can leave a (not so) subtle hint to my husband when my birthday is nearing.

I also think one of the small or dainty Sentinmental Silver pendants would be an adorable gift for a young girl. The pieces are sweet and not overwhelming for a first piece of special jewelry. I mean, seriously, how precious is the Dainty Daisy for a little girl?

Shop! Check out all the shiny, beautiful pendants at Sentimental Silver. And, use the code SALE for 20% off your purchase!

Going Home

by Kate on June 11th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Life

I’m going home! And I can’t wait!

Where have I been?, you may ask. My family and I have been living in a temporary furnished apartment 10 hours from home for the last 4 months. Sounds fun, huh? Well, I can assure you, it’s not. But, let me be clear, the past several months could have been a lot worse. As you know, my husband is in the Air Force and this spring it was his turn to work in the “war on terror”. He could have been sent to Afghanistan, he could have been sent to Iraq. We got very lucky and he was assigned temporary duty at a stateside base and we (the kids and I) were able to join him.

I am so thankful that we were able to be together for the last four months (less a few short overseas trips) and that my husband was safe and we were able to eat dinner as a family every night. I’m so thankful my husband was able to see Baby Girl grow and change over the last four months and to enjoy Toddler Boy in all his toddlerhood. I know how lucky I am and my heart goes out to every military family that isn’t so lucky.

But I cannot tell you how excited I am to be going home. To MY bed and MY house and MY kitchen and MY friends.

So, wish me luck as we pack up this crazy apartment, shove it all in our car (and trailer we had to rent to get everything home), and make the long drive home. And, oh, don’t worry about the blog. They’ll still be new and fun things to read every day. Well, hopefully every day!

Ballerina Bells: It’s Tutu Cute

by Kate on June 11th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Clothes, Reviews

When I was contacted by Rachel of Ballerina Bells I jumped at the chance to work with her on a product review. Not only because the tutus at Ballerina Bells are absolutely adorable, but also because Rachel and all of the women she works with are military spouses. The products are literally made around the world because each woman works out of her home and, being military families, they live all over the place. Aside from the product, I think the business model of Ballerina Bells is very cool and I love that it is giving other military spouses a creative outlet and the opportunity to earn money while moving from base to base.

Okay, let’s get to the good stuff… Can I just tell you how profusely I giggled and oohed and aahed when this beautiful tutu arrived at my door?

Oh. My. Gosh. It is gorgeous and totally girly and fun and sweet. And I love it. So once I was over the initial infatuation I had to actually check it out for quality, and it is truly as well made as it is cute. The waistband is sturdy and I pulled it up over Baby Girl’s legs to her waist quite easily. She doesn’t walk or traditional crawl yet, but she is surprisingly mobile and the tutu held up well to her rolling around and army crawling.

The tutu is full and substantial without overwhelming my little one. I ordered a 6 – 12 month size and it is true to size and fits her around the waist like most 6 – 12 month pants or skirts. The waistband is not elastic but stayed around her waist with no problem.

Baby Girl’s tutu is a one of a kind creation made of white and blue tulle and accented with blue grosgrain ribbon. The ribbon is a darling accent to the tulle, too. There’s a bow on the back as well as knotted strands of ribbon spaced around the tutu.

Ballerina Bells has a HUGE variety of adorable tutus. One of my favorites is the Ballerina Beauty, It’s just perfect in its classic simplicity and this sweet thing is only $17.

Ballerina Bells also has Tutu outfits of embellished tops to match. I love this Sour Apple Cupcake outfit made with 50 yards of pink and lime green tulle and coordinating tee with a cupcake.

If for some reason you can’t find the perfect tutu, Ballerina Bells has an awesome Design Your Own Tutu feature on the website. You can pick everything from size to tulle color to rhinestone embellishments.

To Buy… Oh, yes, buy! What’s not to love? If you’re looking for a special outfit for recital or dress up or just because, Ballerina Bells tutus are affordable, well made and prompt. It was literally a matter of days between when I picked my tutu and when it arrived at my door.

Or Not to Buy… The only improvement I can imagine is offering some styles with an elastic waistband. I’m not even sure if that’s possible, but little ones grow fast and deserve to wear Ballerina Bells tutus for as long as possible!

Shop! Check out the selection of tutus and more at the Ballerina Bells website. Most tutus are available in sizes newborn to 5T. Prices start at $17.

Etsy Yart Sale

by Kate on June 10th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

I love Etsy and I love a good sale, so it only stands to reason that
Etsy + Sale = GOOD!
The Etsy annual YART sale starts today. And, if you’re wondering where the name comes from (I sure was) here’s another fun equation:
Yard Sale + Art = Yart Sale.

Sponsored by the Etsy Supply Street Team, the Yart Sale is an Etsy-wide event and all Etsy shops are invited to participate. (You can find more information on The Storque, Etsy’s handmade blog.)

Many shops will have special “Yart Sale” sections to indicate what is marked down. You can also find Yart sale items, simply do a search for the term “YART” in a particular shop or at the Etsy home page. Some participating Etsy sellers are also offering free shipping, so search the term “YARTFREESHIP”.

Happy Etsy Shopping!
