A few weeks ago we started feeding Baby Girl solids. First of all, I love that it’s called “solids” when it is anything BUT solid. We started with oatmeal, very watery-milky oatmeal. At first she loved it – just couldn’t get enough. And then a week later we introduced sweet potatoes and since then she’s been totally uninterested in eating anything from a spoon. I try not to get frustrated, but it’s so weird given that initially she was very interested in and good at eating oatmeal.
So, the point of this? I forgot how much stuff you need to feed a baby. Holy cow, it’s such a process. That’s where the All About Eating series comes in. Starting June 15, I’m going to try to sort through all the stuff with product reviews and giveaways of the products that you really need.
I’m most excited about some guest posts and interviews from experts who can lend some advice to those of us struggling with the best way to start solids and then provide, encourage and maintain good nutrition in our little ones.
Before the “All About Eating” series begins I need to make sure I’m on the right track. Help me out!
1. What is your must have product for feeding infants and young kids?
2. What are your questions and issues related to starting solids and providing good nutrition to your little ones?
(In case you need some extra incentive, leaving a comment on this post will earn you an extra entry into the All About Eating giveaways!)

June 2, 2009I love bibs with arms. Great when they start feeding themselves.

June 2, 2009I had to have TONS of bibs at the ready. My preference was for bibs with snaps so they wouldn’t pull on our clothes if they all got tossed in the wash together.
Someone bought me some “color-change” spoons to use to let you know if the food was too hot. I thought these were a huge waste and were likely full of horrible chemicals!

June 2, 2009My must have product is something to catch the spills under the high chair! I have yet to find a mat (or some such product) that will stay in place when you move the high chair. When we used a mat underneath that chair, I felt like I was always fixing the mat after every meal. We tried a few different products and right now are back to using a towel.
I also love the bibs with a little pocket at the bottom to catch dropped food.

June 3, 2009We need bibs that can be cleaned under the tap. I take it off my little one and take it immediately to the sink where I was it with hot water and soap.

June 3, 2009I am a big fan of bibs with a pouch to catch what inevitably falls from babies mouth and stops it from falling on their lap! Personally I am a fan of the Bjorn bibs.

June 4, 2009i agree that bibs are a must, and i also love having tons of little bowls and spoons. as for the food itself, i try to make my own baby food and have found that the best tool is a good old fashioned ice tray. =)
this is such a great topic – thank you!

June 4, 2009Thanks everyone for your input! I know I'm forgetting things so it's good to hear what everyone uses and likes.
Everything is coming together, though, and I'm excited about all the All About Eating posts and giveaways.

June 4, 2009I always made my own baby food and found that a regular sized food processor was much more practical than buying a mini "baby food" one.
