Go Green for Spring

by Kate on January 31st, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

Depending on where you live it might be a little early to start talking about dressing for spring, but I found some adorable shirts to get you in the mood. And, obviously, it’s never too early to start shopping for spring (2009, 2010… take your pick).

I must admit the shirts that got me thinking “green” are from Gymboree. Not exactly an obscure or unique place to find clothes for the kiddos or when thinking about the environment; nonetheless, they are cute shirts.

The shirts are organic, available only online and cost $14.75.I LOVE this “When I grown up…” shirt for Toddler Boy.

These shirts got me inspired to find a few adorable “green” onesies for Baby Girl. How great is this “One Lil’ Tree” onesie by Oliver Handmade? It’s made from reclaimed fabric and can even be embroidered with your little one’s name.I also love this “Recycle” shirt by Pumpkin Pie Originals, a shop that specializes in environmentally friendly design for women and children. It’s made on an organic shirt with beautiful coordinated green fabrics. Happy “green” shopping!

The Shopping Mama’s First Giveaway!

by Kate on January 30th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

I am thrilled to announce The Shopping Mama’s first giveaway! To celebrate the launch of TSM, Kissing Kumquats is offering a beautiful handmade skirt to one lucky blog reader! Awesome!

I’ve raved about Kissing Kumquats skirts before and since that post they’ve added several new (and equally gorgeous) designs. The skirts are elastic waist and will fit a lucky little girl for longer than the average skirt. They’re perfect for the spring and summer, but would also be absolutely adorable with leggings in cooler weather.
The lucky winner will get to pick the size, between 2T and 7/8, and the style based on what’s available when the prize is claimed.

HOW TO ENTER: Visit the Kissing Kumquats Etsy site and take a look around and then post a comment on The Shopping Mama with the name of your favorite skirt style. (The three pictured here are just examples. There are lots more on the Etsy site!)

You may earn additional entries by doing the following:
1. Write a blog post about this contest and link back to The Shopping Mama.
2. Become a TSM “Shopper” (click “become a follower” on the right side bar).
3. Send an email to your friends telling them about the contest and cc TheShoppingMama@gmail.com.
Your comment is your entry, so if you qualify for all three additional entries, make sure you leave four comments in total.

The fine print: Please leave your email address in your comment so I can let you know if you’ve won. If you have a blogger account, make sure your profile is set to PUBLIC and contains your email address. (If you don’t want to post your email here, post your name and send me an email.) If you do not leave your email address, you will have 48 hours after the winner is announced on the blog to claim your prize before another winner is selected. Contest ends February 6 at noon. Winner will be selected using random.org.

Flossy Stylish Design

by Kate on January 28th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

Last month, with Toddler Boy’s birthday fast approaching, I was in a panic to find the perfect cards for writing thank you notes. I just could.not.find the perfect cards and if I did find something I liked they were well over $1 a card. Um, no thanks. Luckily, a friend recommended Kelsey at Flossy Stylish Design. After seeing some samples of her designs, I was sold.

Kelsey specializes in wedding paper goods that are truly out of this world beautiful. Think I’m exaggerating? Check out some examples of her work here and on the blog. (See, I told you they were amazing!) But even with my little ol’ note card order, Kelsey was prompt, professional and creative.

Here’s what I picked:
How adorable is the plane on the envelope below the return address?

The best part for me was the price. I still can’t believe how affordable Kelsey’s work is for such great quality. I am already looking forward to sending our Flossy designed Christmas cards next year. (Seriously, just ask the Husband. I’ve already told him, like, 100 times that I can’t wait for Kelsey to make our cards.)

Your Kid’s Name in Print

by Kate on January 27th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized
Frecklebox sells awesome and unique personalized books for kids that are totally worth a look. (The website allows you to virtually flip through the books.) In addition to books, Frecklebox also offers puzzles, growth charts and placemats. I can’t take credit for discovering these on my own, though, because some thoughtful friends sent us Frecklebox gifts when Baby Girl was born.
Baby Girl received the beautiful Nature Namebook, which is so nice to look at that it might as well be a collection of photos.

Toddler Boy received the “Color Me” coloring book and loves seeing his name on every page. It’s a great way to teach him how to spell his name while he’s having fun doodling away.

But I have to say, my favorite thing from Frecklebox is the “New Baby” book written for big siblings. It’s a great gift to make the older sibling feel special and much more interesting and unique than the standard “I’m a Big Brother” books. I’m bummed (and my Husband is happy) I didn’t know about this before Baby Girl was born or Toddler Boy’d be the proud owner of the hardcover version.
Happy reading!

Valentine’s Day Tees

by Kate on January 25th, 2009  |  5 Comments  |  Uncategorized

I don’t know about you, but I like to get the little ones special outfits for certain holidays. It sounds so lame, even as I type it, but I find it hard to resist red, white and blue Fourth of July shirts and “Baby’s First Christmas” sleepers. Unless you like to dress your kid for Groundhog Day, the next holiday for theme attire is Valentine’s Day.

The brick and mortar usual suspects just aren’t doing it for me this year so I went searching on my beloved Etsy.

I admit that I am a sucker for anything monogrammed. But, seriously, how cute are these personalized heart tees?

Finding something for the boys can be a little hard, especially for a holiday involving lots of pink and hearts, but I think the retro feel of the Show Some Love Initial Tee makes it a winner for boys and girls.

My little ones will be wearing adorable Baby Dots shirts from theNook. Baby Girl will be featuring the Be Mine onesie and Toddler Boy will be handsome in his Boys Can Say I Heart You Too tee.
My favorite part? The little heart sewn on the back.Have fun dressing your sweet ones!
